Zeroing iron sights?

I have been reading and reading about zeroing my iron sights and I am still a litte confused. I have an LMT Defender 2000 16" carbine and on my rear sight I have a 6/3 setting, not an 8/3 like a lot of the manuals refer to. I assume they are the same. The part that confuses me is I have read you should set the sight to -2 clicks past the 6/3. Now does that mean 2 click down or 2 clicks up? I get the 2 clicks part and I assumed they meant down but I was told by a young guy at the local gun range that it was supposed to go up because there is a TINY little mark that may or may not be a z on my sight. Does anyone have any idea what I am talking about? Has anyone seen this little z mark before? It is “possibly” 2 or 3 clicks UP from 6/3 but I am not completely convinced it is a z. Should I be 2 click DOWN from 6/3?

Please help.

I can post a pic if you need to see…I just don’t have batteries in my camera right now.

this should help

6/3 is for flat tops 8/3 is for A2 carry handles.

when you zero, turn two clicks till you’re on Z

z is for zero. you want to be on this setting when you zero. when you are done zeroing, go back to “6/3 Flush”

basiclly you are setting it so your sights are zeroed for 25 meters AND 300 meters (Battle sight Zero) or 50 yards AND 200 meters (Improved Battle sight Zero), depending on which zeroing method you use.
