Zero for Colt 6920 w/ Magpul Flip-Up + Aimpoint PRO

Gentlemen, thank you again for all the help you’ve provided to me.

I tried searching the forum for at least 20 minutes but came back with negative results for my question, so I hope you will all be able to help me out.

I have never used an optic on my carbines. I recently decided to put the aimpoint PRO I bought on top of one of the LE6920s that I have. Now I have a magpul mbus rear sight, the standard fixed front sight, and the aimpoint attached to the rail.

My question is, how should I go about zeroing the rifle with BOTH the iron sights, and the aimpoint?

I read conflicting information regarding the 1/3 rise for the aimpoint or the co-witness between both the aimpoint and iron sights.

I’m sorry if this question has gone all over so the place, so let me be brief:

  1. What method should I use to zero-in my Aimpoint PRO with my Magpul Mbus rear and stock 6920 fixed front sight.

  2. Should I co-witness the two directly, or should there be a 1/3 rise for the aimpoint?

  3. I only have access to a 25 yard range at the moment, but I’d like to zero in for 100 yards. I previously went to an outdoor range of 100 yards and zeroed in at an actual 100 yards from a seated position. Is it possible to do this at the 25 yard range? If so, how?

Thanks, I’m sorry if this has been answered before, but I was unable to find it despite searching.

I’d use the lower 1/3 mount for the Aimpoint. Zero that at 25 yards using a 100 “Improved AR15 zero” target. listed here:

Then use the same target to zero your iron sights.

I’d use the 100 yard zero, with the Aimpoint in a lower 1/3 mount, however, some prefer absolute co-witness, I do not- same with the 50 yard zero, which I use sometimes. Find what you like.

When you get a chance go to that100 yard range and check your zero there. I have not used those targets in that link but people seem to like them.

These threads will provide useful.

thanks, great info in those threads!

Here’s a thread I posted on cowitness and red dots. I’d use a 1/3rd cowitness, but the standard one is fine with flip up sights when kept in the down position.

Zero your irons and then dial the red dot to align with the irons. Confirm zero and you’ll be good to go. As long as you zero your irons and red dot at the same distance with the same ammo, they should always cowitness. From there, you can easily confirm zero with a quick cowitness. DocGKR and many others suggest doing it this way as well and has saved me a ton of time as I’m always screwing with my trainng rifles.

For zeroing targets at 25 yards, I like these linked below. From the same guy as zane1844, just different targets he made.
