Hey guys, I’m about to purchase a Yugoslavian AK-47 from a local sporting goods store. Its going for $560.00, Is that a fair price? Also a guy at another store said not to buy an AK because you cant get parts for them, is this true? Thanks
Don’t listen to “guys at the store”. You’re right to inquire here. The Yugo you are looking at is more than likely a parts gun built from a Yugo parts kit. I would stay clear from kit guns as they vary greatly in quality and reliability.
As for parts, you can find anything you will ever need on line from places like K-VAR Corp.
that seems high depending on where you liveand who made it.It isnt a cai is it? take a look on gun broker for some better prices. the yugo’s are ok guns but keep in mind that the bores are usually dark. almost All ak’s are parts kits. brought into this country them reasembled and sold. So most of them will actually be a used gun, just redone.Parts for these are all over the place dont listen to a gun shop.Try the akfiles if you have any problems or need to know where to get the parts.
My experience with Yugo AK clones is based solely on my time in Iraq. In my experience there were very few parts that were interchangeable as they have some dimensional differences. Furniture was not in many cases. As someone else mentioned they are probably parts kit guns, and I would shy away from them.
My bad, I see now what the OP was refering to about the Yugo parts comonality with other AKMs.
