Your opinion about the LMT MRP's

I have been trying to decide what upper I was going to get for months now and decided on the LMT MRP. I just got my rifle length 16 inch middy upper today from Rainier Arms and mated it to the LMT defender lower my gal got me for X-mas. It came with a torque wench, charging handle and 4 rail panels. I am very pleased and looks well made. The ability to change barrels and calibers easily is a bonus. I won’t get the chance to shoot it until this weekend. Anyone own one? What kind of accuracy are you getting? Overall opinion of your MRP?

Thanks,

Roger

Waaaaay past due for a bump.

How’s this thing been working out for you?

This is the upper I’m most likely considering for a build.

Waiting on delivery of my CQB complete rifle in September. Also interested in your experiences. And I want to see a photo of your torque wench.

fme

The torque wrenches that come with these things are garbage, if you’re going to be switching barrels on a regular basis swamp the wrench for something that doesnt suck.

I really liked my MRP’s but i ended up selling them because it was more upper than i needed.

They were exceedingly accurate and reliable as anything LMT makes.

The issue that i had was that i was NEVER going to shoot any other caliber through it but .223. IF they released 5.45 or .22LR (spikes makes the .22LR) i might consider it.

Still, for me, it made more sense to have a dedicated upper or even a conversion for the likes or .22LR.

I ended up selling the uppers and going with BCM and Noveske Midlengths.

The only real “operational” downside to the MRP is that i found it to be really heavy.

I love mine. Spike’s makes 5.45 barrels for them?? Why wasn’t I told?

Sorry for the misinformation, im editing my post.

Spikes makes .22LR barrels, not 5.45.

I had one on order for a while, after talking with some of the staff I eventually decided on modifying an LMT 14.5’’ m4 upper (10 inch larue rail with a pinned FH, and shaved FSB) on an LMT lower. A monolithic MRP was more gun than I needed and more $$$, and I wouldn’t have taken advantage of the monolithic rail.

If you need monolithic, VLTOR’s VIS and LMT’s MRP are undoubtedly some of the best games in town.

I have one and I love it. It is more accurate than my Noveske N4 Basic 14.5" upper and crono’s a bit higher velocity with the same length barrel. The only thing I do not like is actually the reason I got it, was the abality to swap barrels. The swap is fast and easy. However, you you have to re-zero the rifle every time you do it. For me this seems like a waste of time and energy. I would rather have dedicated uppers and or rifles. Do not get me wrong, I still like it alot, just think the barrel change feature, at least for me, is way over rated.

i got one for my MRP and it’s great being able to convert it to .22lr. i’ll shoot 5.56 through it, then swap the barrel out for some .22LR plinking without having to bring a dedicated .22LR upper.

It’s been working well. Being a rifle length rail, it is a bit on the heavy side, since I was previously working with 6920s, but not too much when you get used to it. The trigger on the lower has a much smoother trigger pull that my colts, which surprised me when I first shot it. I ran it for a day and a half at a VTAC 1.5 course. https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=30519 I had a few FTEs, shooting strong side urban prone, with the ejection port damn near on the deck, which was expected, but ran pretty good afterwards. It was a good learning process to know that a inch more in port clearance makes a difference in stopping those failures in that position. Prior to that, I had a hell of a time zeroing the irons. The LMT FS post was too low. I had to adjust it almost all the way out, just to hit the bottom of the black at 50 yards. I switched to a MI folding front sight and was able to get good center mass groups. I have an M4S mounted on it (my 1st Aimpoint). It took me a while to get used to it, after using the EOTech 553 for a few years. Especially when shooting from urban prone. It was difficult to find the dot in that position, but after getting adjusted to a new gun and RDS, I had no problems hitting the comp and steel targets with accurate fire. I like the rifle length rail because it affords me better control it with the VFG at the end, to drive the gun faster. I’ll probably get another rifle rail for one of Grant’s pencil builds. I have a 3K round count on her so far and all I get is questions at the range because no one has seen an AR in that configuration before. I got a deal on it from Rainierarms for $1185.00. Overall, I am very pleased with the accuracy and quality of the weapon. It’s one of my favorite guns to shoot and money well spent.

As Mags has stated, the torque wrench sucks donkey balls. There are better ones out there that’s for sure. I’ll worry about that later down the road if I decide to get the 6.8 barrel. I like the option of having a weapon I can swap out the barrels with, but with the current prices on 6.8 ammo, I probably won’t be converting it anytime soon.

I like it so much I got 2. One DI and one Piston.

Can we get some more info on the .22LR conversion? I’ve seen that they are out but I haven’t heard many actual reviews… Are they pretty reliable? How about accuracy?

Spooky

the MRP conversion utilizes spike’s bolt from their dedicated .22LR upper (i have one of those). then, i just bought the .22LR MRP barrel. that’s it.
accuracy was about 2" at 50 yds - not as accurate as my lothar walther barrel in my dedicated spike’s upper. point of impact DOES change between the .223 MRP barrel and the .22LR barrel - enough to warrant swapping out the optic. i zeroed an aimpoint with the .22LR barrel, and another optic with the .223 barrel.

both my spike’s dedicate .22LR upper and MRP conversion (utilizing the same bolt assembly) are very reliable with CCI minimags and american eagle ammo. i did tune it by cutting 0.5" off the recoil spring, which is pretty standard procedure.
