Does anyone have any feedback on using a Young NM M-16 BCG? I have one sitting here that just arrived and it looks GORGEOUS! I am going to use it with a White Oak 16" Match Barrel on a Mega Gator A3 upper. Any feedback would be great. Mike
Very nice high quality carriers.
tried shooting it in a friend’s rifle. feels different. match it with a midlength 16in barrel. it should be a light recoiling rifle.
That is EXACTLY what I have for a barrel. White Oak Match 16" mid length gas system.
white oak match … it’s a heavy barrel right?
my friend had I think a JP barrel turned down to make it lighter.
Yes, it is the heavy Match barrel 16 inch.
I have one in my Larue Stealth 18". Haven’t shot it yet, but this weekend will be the test.
I bought mine directly from Young here in Phoenix. It is un-staked. Anyone think I may have issues with the un-staked key?
Definitely want to stake the key. For some reason they don’t do it at the factory.
Maybe, maybe not. However, you’re virtually guaranteed to avoid gas key issues if you get it properly staked. It’s cheap insurance…why gamble?
Had one (chrome) in my ‘goto’ carbine and ended up replacing it with an LMT. Ended up reducing a number of feeding problems I was running in to.
PK buys the stripped carriers and stakes the key. They also add a non-chrome cam-pin.
I seem to remember Sully saying (in the last armorers class I was in) that they were made under contract by DPMS.
Young’s says they use red loctite instead of staking, which they say will last 20,000 rounds. If you buy it from someplace like Spike’s Tactical, they will stake it themselves. It seems like a no-brainer to me, loctite or not.
I can assure you that the NM M-16 BCG from Young IS staked and done very well.
Where did you purchase yours? Most of the quality dealers stake them before they ship, young doesn’t stake them.
Regarding the red locktite issue, it is weakened by heat, bcg’s get hot= locktite doesn’t work.
just got mine too

waiting for my noveske 14.5 midlength to put this on
i bought one from young directly a while back, thinking it was staked–it wasn’t. add the cost of a moaks, or sending it off for staking to the price of one.
Off topic, but what is that wrapped around your magwell?

As it has already been pointed out, if you order from places like Spike’s or PK Firearms, they will stake it themselves. The NM BCG I bought from Spike’s had Spike’s logo on it and it was pretty well staked.
