Thanks for your concern, and I appreciate where you’re coming from. Since I already own the platform and it’s nearly 100% now, it seems I should learn more about it. I referred to the chart made by Rob S and noticed no data for YHM. So since that remains a question mark, I contacted them directly. I’m sharing the emails from YHM with Rob S so he can update his chart accordingly. Yes, lots of opinions were offered in the other thread, but no concrete data to suggest why. Vague and ambiguous comments don’t tell the whole story, so I chalk them up to opinion. I’m willing to accept the consequences of what I find out from asking questions, so let the chips fall where they may. I don’t get my feelings hurt easily and I’m willing to admit that I make mistakes. At the moment, I’m not convinced this is one of them. I searched the forum and found a few comments about people not liking the hand guards because they were large and heavy. Some people felt the edges were not blunt enough…too sharp. Since I own the hand guard, I equate that to personal preference. I’ve asked for specific data giving instances of problems with YHM, but nobody has taken me up on the offer yet. I was hoping somebody who can cite specifics would give me a detailed account.
This morning I’ve invested a little time to fire off some emails to get answers to my questions. Here’s what I found out:
BCG’s - The BCG’s are actually made by Stag Arms…something I’m sure many here probably didn’t know. Based on Rob’s chart, Stag + BCG’s are HP/MPI tested. The staking is actually better on my Stag than on my Bravo BCG, so it looks as though at least the BCG should hold up over time. Any info to the contrary is welcome.
Barrels - According to YHM, they purchase blanks from E.R. Shaw and YHM does the fluting, plating and drilling. YHM said they “THINK” ER Shaw does MPI/HP testing, but he confirmed that YHM does not. I consulted ER Shaw’s website and couldn’t find any reference to MPI/HP testing. I’ve also sent an email, so I’ll wait for their response and update the thread accordingly.
