YHM claims that all of their rifles are mil-spec. Anyone here have any first hand experience with one?
IIRC there was a debate about it and YHM refused to release the details.
When I was in Iraq we had BM rifles (purchased in 05) that were outfitted with YHM rails and sights. They were absolute crap. The rails did not have anti-rotation screws and the sights which were made from aluminum were easily damaged.
Personally I will only buy very few items from them.
Can you direct me toward said debate?
The phrase “mil spec” is constantly abused. It was explained to me by a REAL supplier to the military that it’s easy to make items to meet a military specification. However an item that meets a Military Standard(Mil Std) that is the actual specs 100%. Somebody correct me if I was informed wrong.
Sounds about right. Some(many) vendors call their gear “mil spec” as long as it will physically fit on something government issued.
Colt has the complete TDP for the M4. This includes the print for every part. Every print has the dimensions, material spec(s), heat treat specs, and coating specs. Depending on the part, there may be additional requirements, like HPT/MPI for bolts. When all of the conditions on the print are met, that part is “mil spec” and acceptable to the US Governement.
I can’t remember where I saw. Let me think on it.
Right the eff on.
Very little about YHM is good to go or mil-spec for that matter.
