Not sure if this is in the right section so I apologize if its not
Does anybody have this gas block? how well does it stay in place and is the flip up sight any good? Im either gonna go with this or a low profile (leaning towards the gas block linked) on the build that im doing and neither of them will be able to be removed due to living in NY and our idiotic laws
I have the YHM9394 sight/gas block, has the lug for bayonet. It works just fine. I have about 600 rds thru the gun since I installed the sight and it stays put just fine. I made sure it was level and tightened the screws on opposite sides from each other. This way the sight wasn’t pulled out of level. I didn’t use loctite and it’s as tight today and when first installed. The sight holds zero just fine. I haven’t re-zeroed it since I installed it and it’s still on the mark. YMMV
Funny that you guys are on this subject, I actually picked up my bushmaster from the gunsmith where he put on the YHM flip front sight/gas block yesterday! I really like it… but I only put 100 rounds through it(was on lunch break) as of yet.
They must be hit or miss. My brother’s Sabre M4 tactical came with one from the factory. He’s got somewhere between 4-5k rounds through his and no problems with it.
YHM isn’t always crap, but it IS hit or miss. I never take risks on something like that if at all possible, even if it means more money. My friends have had both great luck with YHM, and also bad experiences.
It’s pretty much what you’ll always hear when not talking about tier 1 brand of rifle. Some work great, a lot of others don’t. Half the battle is QC at the factory, it seperates the men from the boys.
My flip up rear hasn’t had any issues. This is the first I’ve ever heard of them being garbage. I was intrigued, so I searched and didn’t find a lot of evidence on this site supporting the garbage argument either.
Please take the time to read all of the sticky thread at the top of each subforum.
Not following this one. What does M4c T-shirts have to do with this topic?
I am sick and tired of the gucci gear queers that spout off that YHM is junk. If you don’t follow “THE CHART” your rifle is shit and not worth anything. If you don’t own X, Y, Z brand it’s not any good. I own YHM suppressors, FF rails, and 2 flip up front sight/gas blocks and I’ve never had an issue with any of the YHM products. They are heavy duty, solidly built, but not lightweight in any way. Is there better, sure there is because you can always find a better part if you look long enough.
The front sight/gas block has been on one of my 16 inch carbines for over 6 years, the barrel has seen range and class use/abuse over 6000 rounds, it never has failed to function, nor has the sight moved the slightest bit. The key is to properly mount it and use red Loctite on the mounting screws. Also, the YHM Phantom flash hiders were some of the most sought after FH’s when first released. Their suppressors have gone head to head with some of the top tier manufacturers and come out even if not ahead of some. The Rail systems are sturdy, some say they aren’t to spec, but like I said earlier I’ve never had issues with mine, even when it came time to mount a Tango Down VFG, which was also once the king of the hill.
Like most everything with AR15 parts, something new will eventually come out. They’ll be made of better materials, lighter weight, etc… YHM products have stood the test of time and are reasonably priced, used and mounted properly you can certainly depend on them. So, you can listen to the naysayers and stay away from them, or you can try it out and find out for yourself.
Yeah, people like Iraqgunz are just gear queers that spout off alot…
Have you ever read his thoughts on the YHM failures that he experienced in Iraq? Before you respond, you may want to check into what he posted on the subject.
I’m sorry, but I’m in Texas and YHM is just fine for my needs. I do have a BCM if that makes up for me not having a YHM kitted M4 fail me in Iraq. But then again I’m not one that would deploy with everything either staked on or pretty much Private proof.
It would take some intentional abuse to move my YHM gas block/front sight from its installed position. If I could get contributions to buy me a new upper I will intentionally put it through any test the board would like me to put it through. I’ll run it over, drop it off of a tall building, throw it in the air a hundred times. I can see a sort of Mythbusters challenge, can I break it?:dance3: Any takers???
I looked and could only find M4C bashing the YHM flip up sight. Poly, you seem to have a sample of 1 as well as a serious case of YHM hate. I’d really like to know what your expertise regarding this matter is. I know IraqGunz had some issues in country, I can understand his frustration but a.r.m.s. had issues, as well as many other manufacturers. He was in an environment where shit breaks, even the good shit breaks over there and I commend his skills of being able to fix what he had to. That has to be frustrating.
