At distances when sights are most useful, they are a hinderance.
At close range I’m indexing on the target and pulling the trigger, sights or no sights.
I’ve found that standard Warrens and Heinies aren’t regulated for distance work, so I’ve moved on to 10-8 Performance (with the correct height front) or better yet, IMO, the new Kyle Defoor Ameriglo sights.
I answered my own question that I posed in the original post when I came across a thread in, of all places, the AK subforum on here. Nevermind about the standard dots, then, they are not for me.
i have the big dots. the impediment to accuracy isn’t the size of the front sight, it’s the vagueness of the rear sight.
i don’t recommend them unless you have really bad eyes and a laser.
They are ok…I found that they worked pretty well within 15m and not as well when shooting further than that. They are an improvement on the OEM sights, and you could certainly do worse, but there are better options out there.
I installed them on my first carry gun and what they were great for was teaching me to track my front sight, especially through recoil, as the rear “notch” is virtually wide open. After the tritium died in the rear sight I switched to Heinie / Warren 2 dot set ups, I prefer these much better and have not looked back since.
