Im pretty sure all 855 is lead free. They are copper jacket over a steel core.

The cross section shows the jacket and the lead core along with the steel “penetrator” of the M855.
The new M855A1 does not have a lead core.
ETA- I don’t know what that linked ammo is, does not match the external characteristics of M855A1.

Isnt this the stuff that was found to be more toxic than lead core bullets?

Let’s see, if this is indeed the leftover failed “green” M855, it is not as accurate as M855, terminal performance is not as good as M855, oh and it is toxic to the aquifer unlike lead, just like has been previously posted…
Retaks–have you never looked at the LEAD base of an M855 projectile or held the little tiny 10 gr steel penetrator and thought to yourself, hmmm…I wonder what materials the rest of the 52 gr is made of?

“Unique” factor, maybe? Lord knows that we all know folks that’ll buy just about anything just because it’s out of the ordinary…
Otherwise, nah. It’s just ball ammo, though made from the dust of green Tinkerbells (fake ones; like Doc says, that stuff’s not nearly as environmentally friendly as it says it is on the informational pamphlets they handed to any given appropriations sub-comittee). You’d be spending about 2x what you would for plain 'ole 62gr ball, and get nothing for your trouble or extra $$ spent.
All the places I know of that restrict to lead-free are indoor places that are particularly specifying frangible, not lead-free solid bullets.
Not to resurrect a Zombie Thread but I don’t think the ammo in question is the XM855LFS projectile but rather the tin/bismuth experimental XM855A1 predecessor to the current M855A1.
I am tempted to buy a box to confirm my suspicions as I saw a cutaway of this round (the tin/bismuth projectile) in 2010 at the Small Arms branch/Picatinny.

All incorrect, the purpose of this round was to poison the enemies water supply from afar. :dance3:
