I would like to know how many of you have ran an x300u on a rifle? im in the market for purchasing a new light but i also have an x300u i was told to run on a rifle how do you guys feel about it? what mounts to run with and where to place for easier weapons manipulations
The x300 is an excellent weaponlight. The Ultra is even better. The issue is that because it was designed primarily for a pistol, the ergonomics aren’t ideal for a rifle.
that said, when mounted at 12:00 (on the top rail) in front of your front sight, they tend to be excellent because there is no bulk off to the sides, and little or no barrel shadow from the light being blocked by the barrel.
The switch to activate the light is also very easily used in this position, but you may find that you can’t reach the light when mounted at the end if very long rails. I recommend trying it on the top rail of rifles with middle length 9-12" or so rails.
Would it be ideal to run a x07 tailswitch ?
What about the hsp thorn tail with a switch?

I’d say no. I tried running an X300 on a 15" rail at 12:00 and found that it was too far away for me to activate. I got the XT07 and that made mounting a front sight difficult… It would have had to be mounted very far back. Plus, the on off switch on the XT07 back plate is very easy to bump into off by mistake.
so for me, surefire scout lights work for longer rails, if I want to run an X300, it’s going on something a bit shorter.
Your experience may vary.
Edit: I actually also tried with the thorntail, and didn’t really like the bulk. It was only a temporary fix.
The X300 series should come with replacement parts to switch to pic rail interface that will allow you to slide it onto a rail. Have an extra X300U that I tried on one of my BCMs. I did not like it, found the ergos and manipulation to just not be to my taste and the front sight issues as well as it ghosting a little in the bottom of my ACOG. I ended up pulling it and picked up another Scout light, which I wanted to run on it anyway, with a Larue mount locally for a song locally around Christmas so my two go to ARs are now both running Scouts with SR07 switches, which is my current preference. So now Have an extra X300U awaiting either another pistol purchase or something and Scouts on my rifles. My advice would be, if you can, to try it out and see if you like it. Something like this is kind of personal preference as I know several who really do love the set up so that my words for what they are worth.
Just tried it … I really don’t like the fact that I can kind of see it with the t1… How about a mini vs a a regular scout worth the pay difference ? To run with hsp mount?
I currently run a Vampire light on my lwrc and I love it . I’m new to the whole light thing because I have a really good friend that got me into rifle lights.

I prefer the regular scout because of lumens (500 on the ultra) battery life, and sometimes it’s nice to have a longer light to reduce barrel shadow. That said, there are definitely uses for the mini scout.
I’d save that x300U for your pistol, abd get another scout of done kind for your rifle.
I’m going to start my shopping for a mini scout. I’m going to try and trade the ultra for a mini because I prefer to carry hand held lights for my pistol. Thanks for all the advice guys I really appreciate it .

I have a X300U mounted at 3 o’clock on my 10.5" work rifle. I use the Surefire pressure switch at 12 o’clock. This setup works great for me. I have had this setup for about a year and half and no issues. I did change the mount lock over to the “permanent” screwed on from the one it ships with.
I’ve used X300s and X300Us at 12:00 and 3:00.
Excellent light, the tape switches suck. Too easy to snag and pull off.
I haven’t tried the tailswitches but if I would use it I think the larue index clips would work best. They would just ride along the rail so it would make it hard to come off

Yeah that’s probably your best bet. The SR switches are excellent, and make activation very natural.
Index clips are great at holding the cables, and they are low profile enough for 12:00 use. For side rails, I tend to use magpul EXTMs which also secure cables.
Yea I enjoy the index clips they are an awesome piece of gear . I just picked up a surefire scout with sr07 switch for a sweet deal I’m going to try and run that on my Knights mod 2 so I’m going to start looking into a good offset mount for a light any recommendations ?

if you’re in the market for a mini scout, i’d just go with arisaka’s version at half the cost:

i’m not a fan of the X300U on a rifle, especially on top. but, it’s worked on the side for me.
Never heard of that brand interesting price might have to look it up YouTube

There’s a 54-page thread on arisaka here - good stuff - buy with confidence:

Thanks for the heads up! I guess the reading and research begins

Yeah, Arisaka is great. If you need to buy another light, this would be a great choice. It’s Surefire Scout compatible.
This. I run an X300 at the end of a 10" Centurion Arms rail at the 12:00 position. Because I run my T1 micro in a Lower 1/3 co-witness out to the front of my upper receiver I’ve yet to have an issue with seeing the X300 at the bottom. It works very well for transitioning from left to right for shooting around corners or through openings and because of the design of the X300 switch I don’t have issues with activation after transitioning.
12:00 X300 isn’t for everyone but it fulfills a wide range of my needs so I use it.
I have my X300 Ultra at 9 o’clock. No pressure switches, etc. Just the way it came out of the box. Works great. Plenty of lumens in a small, light weight package.
