WWll weapon turned in during gun buy-back program in CT
(NECN/NBC News: Jeff Saperstone) - Police officers in Connecticut received one very unusual weapon during a gun buy-back program last week – the gun was from World War II and is worth over $30,000.
At least they did the right thing. If it was NY or MA, it would have been melted down lol.

I’ve only had the chance to handle a replica STG44, full auto blank fire only, but still good stuff.
I’m glad they did the right thing, not only allowing the lady to decide what happened to the rifle, but not destroying a legendary rifle.
My understanding is if it was not registered it would be a felony for the women to own. But I might be incorrect due to curio and relic status.
It wasn’t registered as an NFA so it would have been a felony, and is only worth $30,000 if it was registered during the 1968 amnesty. During WW2 it would have still been an NFA weapon and would not have been allowed to be legally brought back…

Wow, unless that gun was registered, I doubt it could be sold and would now be considered contraband. “Perhaps” it could be donated to a museum, but I don’t know if that is even legal.
I remember this same thing happened a few years ago with a Thompson and it ended up being forfeited. I don’t remember now if it was dewatted and placed in a museum or if it was destroyed, but I am pretty sure it was no sold.

Plus one for the local police though, I remember hearing a similar story where the police basically kept a Maxim 08 for themselves. (play with it in their armory I guess)
Interestingly, guy who originally taught me to shoot served in Vietnam inthe early 70’s. A guy in his unit sent home an AK fully functional wrapped in brown paper.Of course being in a combat unit overseas there was no postage. The rifle went all the way from Vietnam to his parents house with the mailman laughing at what he was delivering 
My Uncle, (who I haven’t seen or heard from in well over 20 years) sent back envelopes full of weed to my other younger uncles. Or so the story’s told.
And a fella I used to work security with said his brother brought home several small AK parts kits home from Iraq. The kind that can turn a civ. model into one that rocks and rolls. I told him he really should not be telling people that, whether its true or not.
That was stupid. Those parts aren’t even regulated and are pretty easy and cheap. You just have to be willing to drill that hole.
Ok. Yeah, I’m not familiar with the AK platform at all, so I figured he was talking about a FA FCG. This guy was kind of an idiot anyway. I don’t know what he’s doing with himself these days
You are not allowed to legally bring any of those weapons parts back to the U.S. I went round and round with the people at DDTC about this.
