I am doing another MEU / MARSOC 1911 build and want to stamp the last 4 digits in the areas specified on various parts.
My question: Should the “stamping” be done BEFORE or AFTER the re-finishing?
I plan on having the pistol professionally re-parked for a “new” out of the box look… Will my stampings be “obliterated” or not show up after I have refinished ?
- also…what is the “key” to having the numbers look “uniform” …all in a nice clean “line” …as my stamps are invidual metal bars.
Cheers.
I’m not an expert on this, but it would make sense to stamp before you finish the weapon. If you stamp after you apply the finish, you’re going to have exposed metal with the finish no longer there. As for the uniform serial number, I don’t think that’s typical. I’ve seen many pictures with the digits not alinged, however they are relatively close. Dave Berryhill, who also frequents this site, has made the MEU(SOC) old version and new version. He can probably shed more light on how he has done it in the past.
Stamp before parkerizing. Stamping the individual numbers in a straight line and evenly spaced is challenging. Practice many times on scrap metal before you attempt it on your pistol.
