My wife went shooting today…I don’t know how she can do something I’ve NEVER seen before in over 30 years of shooting, but…I’m just lucky she didn’t try to shoot the round loaded BEHIND it…
That bullet is in there solid as a rock, I’m going to softly drill it out and hope it breaks up before it ruins the barrel…any ideas?
DON’T DRILL IT. It will come out tapping it out with a section of rod and a hammer if need be.
It’s happened to me a couple times with junk rounds.
ETA too late. If the barrel isn’t ringed or bulged you should be fine. If it didn’t have enough power to make it out the barrel chances are it didn’t have enough to damage it.
WWB is bottom end of the new manufacture domestic loads. Light even when it runs. Expect wide variability. Not bad if you’re looking to test low end function and functional thresholds.
A squib running that far shouldn’t have made a bulge and is likely fine. I would still have someone who knows what to look for check it out, preferably with a bore scope.
You swapped your RSA for an aftermarket… What are you running and why?
Wow… a squib with factory made US ammo? I knew there was a reason I never trusted WWB. I bet it’s not even made in the US. Like other Walmart-grade goods, they’re probably produced in sweat shops in Bangledesh.
One squib on the internet, and now people are writing off an entire line of ammo?
WWB has to be among the most popular ammo in the country. If it were total shit, I think we’d be hearing about it. No company has a 100% perfect run of ammo.
Ammunition and ammunition components are made by humans. Squibs happen. I like to use a piece of wood dowel rod on the first attempt to drive out a stuck projectile. If that does not work, I use a brass rod. I would be very reluctant to attempt to drill out a stuck projectile.
If you ever watched the speed the commercial loaders that load promo Amo run at you would think it was a mirical that any of it worked. The low percentage of FTF or squib for WWB is unbeliavably good.
I have a friend who owns an ammunition factory. He told me this story a couple years ago, about shooting at his local range next to another guy with a squib.
Other Guy is looking down the muzzle of his weapon
Friend : “What the Hell are you doing?!”
Other Guy: “My bullet got stuck in the barrel. Do you think I can suck it out of there?”
Friend: “I doubt it… but if you can… you’re coming home with me tonight!”
Wasn’t a reload which is why I was so surprised. Tried to use brass rod to tap out before using the nuclear option (drill); wouldn’t budge.
Of course, this would happen to my wife who I’m trying to get comfortable shooting - this did not help I’m just lucky she didn’t get hurt. I don’t know how, but all the crazy shit seems to happen to her.
I’ve got several boxes of same lot remaining, makes me distrust it. Not going to let her shoot that one until I’ve had the barrel checked and put another 500 rds thru it myself.
I had a squib from Amercan Eagle in my G17. Fortunately it was close enough to the chamber that another round would not chamber. I was able to tap it out with a cleaning rod. Every manufacturer can put out something below spec.
I had a squib load like this one with Winchester NATO contract 9mm a few years ago. Got it from ammoman. Winchester made good on replacing the ammo. Tapped out the projectile with a wood dowel too. The round sounded strange, and the gun didn’t cycle. Kinda scare because my first reaction was to Tap Rack, then… wait a minute! Glad I didn’t pull that trigger.
