So the cops catch a guy passed out behind the wheel, open and empty containers everywhere, firearms in the vehicle, and even pissed his pants.
The cops who showed up summoned anyone he wanted(and they came running!), stroked his ego, offered him refreshments, let him call associates to advise where he was at and what was going on, cleaned up his mess, backed off when he started to resist the cuffs, doesn’t kill the drunk’s pets, kept it on the down low, and more.
There is, and always has been, a different set of rules (or consequences) for some people as opposed to others. I don’t like it at all, and it is neither morally nor ethically right. That said, it is so imbedded and endemic in our government—local, county, state, and of course Federal—that it is an impossible task to ever fully remove it. The best we can hope for is like the above-mentioned incident: scream it at the top of our lungs and make damn sure as much as possible is exposed! It will have to be a case-by-case basis, and thus it will rarely get exposed to the public, unless there is a political axe to grind (then it becomes convenient).
Must be something about any government in general that lends itself to be predisposed to corruption and the creation of a “good ol’ boy” network. It happens all over the world, usually even worse than here.
Any Man willing to hold another Man above the Law would also likely use that same Law to Hold another Man down.
My Dad installed Electronic Automatic Switching Services throughout the Midwest States. More or Less he took you off of your Party Lines, Automated the old Switch Board System and did away with local Operators so it was very popular and we moved alot.
Being the New Kid in Town and having nothing invested in local politics, gossip or family ties it was intresting the way things worked there.
The Towns that seemed to operate on a “Good Ol Boy” Network could be either good or Bad. The more they tended to a single economic source for the entire Town the more likely they were to be a PITA.
Agricultural Towns seem to be the worst of it.
We had a “Good Ol Boy” Network in S.E. Arizona. The Guy I will speak of was an Attorney, Bookeeper, Farmer, and Local Political Guru.
They had a heck of an Operation running, .gov Money coming in one way, Crop Sales and Land Development money coming in another way. Everyone Working with them were getting rich and they all had a seat at the trough.
Until Mr.Attorney, Bookeeper, Farmer and local political Guru, gets a whiff off some out of town Kitty. He lost all control.
It All fell apart and when it did he screwed all of his Partners and ran off with their Money and as a parting gift to his Family he stole his Fathers Money and sold some land on the side on the way out the door.
So, the System is only as good as the weakest link..Obviously at any one time the “Weakest Link” Moniker is going to change hands.
I don’t know too many Attorney’s or Judges who don’t drink, alot. I think some of them went in to Law to keep their DUI expenses under control.
I surely wish these Drunks with a Death Wish would stay off of the road, they keep taking out the innocent people along the way.
I mean I don’t even care who drinks or how much they drink, just dont get behind the wheel. Unless he changes his ways, that Judge isn’t much longer for this world. He will cool his heels for a bit, promise his Wife and either die of Liver disease or wrap his Truck uip in an accident.
