I’ve got a BFG Vickers padded sling with their QR attachment on my LE6920. I’ve got it adjusted to where it seems to be the perfect length and there is a good bit of extra sling at each end dangling from the buckles. I’m average size, 5’11 and 165 lbs. the slide adjustment for quick changes in length works fine at the length I have set. What should I do with the extra sling? It makes sense to me to just trim it carefully and heat seal the ends. There is enough there that I don’t want to just fold it over and strap or tape it to the sling. The sling will not be used on any other weapon. What would you do? Thanks in advance. ![]()
Fold it over and tape it down is what Id do. Duct tape works well and they now come in ‘tactical’ colors
I’m in the same spot (dangling VCAS straps) but they don’t seem to bother me. Not sure if wrapped/taped bundles would get in the way. Cutting off the excess seems to be the cleanest solution. I just have to build up the nerve.
Nothing some snips and a soldering iron can’t fix. Just remember, you can’t cut some back ON. I just looped my back thru the buckle and taped it down.

So far one reply for tape, one reply for cut (I know it won’t grow back)and one undecided… waiting to work up the nerve to cut. Waiting to work up the nerve to cut is where I’m at right now… I just need some encouragement. Folding it over and using tape will work. It just doesn’t seem like the best solution to me. These slings aren’t cheap and I don’t want to deal with a lump of tape at each end. I’m pretty much of a perfectionist and I can’t see the harm in cutting it. Has anyone cut theirs?
The more I think about this it seems like a dumb question. I just don’t know. ![]()
I don’t think it’s a dumb question at all. There are valid arguments either way (cut it or tape it). I have a couple of the same sling, and I don’t see myself needing nearly this much length. But as Zhurdan put it I “can’t cut some back on”. So for now 100mph tape is good enough and keeps it out of my way.
I always folded and taped.
You never know when you might want it longer. It’s hard to put material back on once it’s gone ![]()
If the sling is dedicazted to that weapon and you know you are not going to change the mounting style or placement then cut it and melt it.
You can always cut some of it, leave yourself some wiggle room and tape the rest.
I cut and melted two of three at the mounting points. Two are on my personal carbines and the one I did not cut is on my FN A4. We are supposed to be transioning to GAU-5/M4’s shortly, so I figured I would leave it alone till that happens.

If you have any idea that someday you may trade it or sell it, don’t cut, tape. I have 1 M4, most likely I will not have more. I fitted my Single Point Sling and I fitted my 2 point Vickers to fit me and trimmed the excess.
Cut.
I read the instructions and watched the online tutorial.
My thanks to all those who replied. I think that cutting some of the excess is the way to go. This sling is dedicated to my LE6920. There are no plans to move it to another weapon. I’m not a LEO or Military, just use it for plinking, home defense and hopefully a few carbine classes.
I guess I just needed to hear from others as to what they have done. Thanks again. ![]()
