Came across this lpk while looking around on aimsurplus just now. Thought about picking this up, but figured I’d bring it to the forum first. So basically, is this a good buy or just crap wrapped in shiny stuff?

I’d rather grab a Colt LPK from Grant and be done with it.

Good shops don’t volunteer to machine after Nitride/Melonite treatment…in their sales pitch, that was a red flag for me.
Why waste cutting tools while you are trying to cut through your newly acquired surface treatment ?

They are out of stock on their sight where it lists for 49.00; 39.00 isn’t a big chunk of change for me, I’d give it a go and if it didn’t work out I’d just stay at home and make sammiches the next two times I wanted to go out for pizza when the wife and kids are gone.
I looked all through the b-or-b ar site, I think I’ll probably give their 10.5 rail a shot, I liked the way it looked.
I’ve heard that even though the temps used in nitriding are not extreme (<600 IIRC) there is still a minute potential for surface distortion - maybe that is the reason to machine after treatment?
Most folks I’ve read on here recommend not nitriding the hammer, trigger and disconnect, is it due to the potential distortion or the difficulty in stoning the case hardened surface?
Nitriding junk parts does not suddenly make them good. All you end up with is a nitrided turd. If you want a good treated trigger get an ALG.
I just don’t understand the thought of trying to pick up a cheap LPK. A Colt LPK is only $60.

I thought he was looking for a complete LPK, the link you posted is for a Colt LPK minus FCG. is 60.00; so figure an additional 49.00 for an ALG.
Is CMMG any good?
Primary Arms has them for $49 including a FCG.
If money is no object, sure, I’d go with the Colt from G&R
Like PD said, go with Grant’s Colt LPK. You won’t be disappointed.
A Colt LPK for $60 is a no-brainer.
Nitride treatment seems like a good idea for barrels, and maybe a good idea for some other wear items. I don’t think it’s necessarily a good idea for the little parts in the LPK. Not everything benefits from being over 60 HRC surface hardness. And with an LPK, precise fit of the parts is very important, and a brand I’ve not heard of before doesn’t give me confidence.
That’s the part that gave me pause, again why I brought it here before hitting that add to cart button. For me, the debate is settled. I’ll stay clear of this lpk (unless someone down the road has tried it out and can give a solid recommendation) and go with something more trustworthy.
CMMG is good to go from my experience having put together several builds with them. Just a standard LPK.

They’re basically DPMS LPK’s, and the issues I’ve encountered with mine mirror the commonly seen DPMS problems. They’re good for the price, but I’ve moved on from trying to save $20 on a rifle costing more than that significantly, because it costs more than I’d save in ammunition just to identify and verify a problem - just get a Colt or DD LPK.
2nd both. Add the ALG ACT to the above LPK and you’ll be mighty happy with the result. Thus far I’ve set up 3 lowers that way…

There just always seems like there is this temptation to try stuff when its cheap haha.
