So here is the deal, it seems that from my research on this forum and the web, people prefer wilson mags or mccormick mags for their colt 1911. But i feel like there are alot of complaints over mccormick mags. What is the true verdict? Should i buy wilson or Mccormick mags for my colt 1911-a1?
Please post these kind of questions in the 1911 sub-forum.
Also. Wilson 47D.
Ok, sorry. Didnt realize there was a 1911 section. Should i really post it now though? I dont want to spam, can the admins just move it?
Nah, don’t worry about it. They’ll probably move it.
We also have a lot of threads on 1911 mags.
Grant did a good one.
Great link, thanks. Im gonna get wilson mags
Glad I could help. ![]()
I no longer run a 1911 but when I did both Wilson and McCormick mags worked great.
The Wilson’s were a little nicer but the McCormick’s were a great value allowing me to buy more mags for my $.
This was with Wilson 47Ds and McCormick Power Mags.
I say both
Just one more question though, are the wilson 47T jus as reliable as the 47D. It seems like the only difference is 8rds vs 10rds
Tripp, CMC, ETM
for 10s my CMCs have been flawless
Just read that. Nothing new in 4 years?
Man! My 10 year old shot a 1911 yesterday and he is all fired up. He was mad when I told him I sold all my 1911’s now I remember why.
I see a new Caspain in my future.
I’ve been running a 50/50 split of Mc Cormick Power Mags and Wilson 47D’s in an Ed Brown Commander , a Wilson CQB and a NOVAK worked Springfield std grade.
Can’t say there have been any performance issues between the two.
I buy more of the Mc Cormicks as they are cheaper.
I have always had better luck with Wilsons, 47D’s and now the ETM’s.
Just my experience.
I’ve only used the Wilson 47Ds and 47Ts. Never had a problem. Lately I’ve been wanting to try Brownell’s new 1911 magazine.
My Kimber works well with McCormick Shooting Star mags.
My thoughts exactly. I tried a CMC once but sold it. Really didn’t have a reason other than I just preferred the Wilson’s.
Used both. Only have Wilsons now because I wanted to standardize my mags. The CM mags I had worked fine.
I used to have a POS Kimber Raptor II and it didn’t like Cm power mag or the shooting star mags at all. THe gun turned out to be a POS but I did switch to Wilson 47D and saw my failure rate drop from about once per mag to 3-4x per 50 rounds… this was after a feed ramp polish job. it did cause the rounds to bump the slide lock on the way up the feedramp though causing the slide to lock back occasionally mid magazine… After the problem surfaced with the Wilson mags I tried a couple brand new CM mags and it did it with those as well… Same ammo throughout…
Tomato, tomahto.
I still prefer Wilson, but there are finally some other worthy contenders out there. Which will best suit your needs is best threshed out on the firing line with an ammo can full of your fodder of choice sitting on the bench beside you. I don’t say that to be flippant, but simply because some guns can be finicky, and what works great in your Colt might choke in your Springfield. That said, if a 47D or ETM won’t work, you’ve got a pistol problem – not a magazine problem.
