I never knew they let them keep their rifles after their service was up, very cool.
Wish I could have kept my M4 w/ the fun switch ![]()
Wonder if I could have gotten to keep my M60.
Oh, the fun I could be having.
Very Nice!
Yeah, I would liked to have kept a 240B, but I wouldnt be able to afford to feed it.
“The key to freedom is the ability to defend yourself. The tools for that are our guns…”
AMEN!
Our government would rather cut our rifles into scrap or give them to some 3rd world country than allow vets to keep their service rifle.
Part of the reason that we live in a county that has never been invaded is the fact that other countries have taken into consideration that there is a very large armed population living in this country. It’s sad that we are a factor in the equation when it comes to our countries overall safety and yet they don’t trust us with acual military rifles.
Though this video depicts the coolness of being able to retain a service weapon there is a little more to it. All personnel are considered part of the militia after they complete their training and compulsory service.
Unfortunately Switzerland has also sacrificed much of their gun freedoms as well. Not all that many years ago you could purchase suppressors, full auto weapons and DD’s. The laws varied from Canton to Canton, but nowadays it is very difficult to get anything.
I’m comfortable with Decodediesel leaving his with the Army after he got out. ![]()
I think I’m with-in 14km of him.
Still beats the hell out of Cali and NY.

Awesome!
Very true, things have changed a lot in the last few years, getting much, much more restrictive.
The more “liberal” cantons are driving more retrictions for the entire country.
It’s a beautiful country, I was there in the 80’s and at the time it was by far my favorite country on the Continent.
It’s interesting to be driving over a bridge in the Alps that you realize has explosives built into it so that you can bring the bridge down and restrict enemy movement. A fair amount of the Swiss Alps are hollow and stuffed with F-18 Hornets and war materiel.
Who are our resident SIG nuts? Those are some nice rifles!
In the pic where they guy looks like he is having lunch with his back to us, does he have the bolt out of his gun?
I wonder on what basis the liberals have been able to implement their restrictions?
Swiss service rifles have to be demilled before being turned over to private ownership, no fun switches. What a shame.
Did you all catch the big gun shoot has GOVERNMENT PROVIDED AMMO!!!
Oh if only…
There have been a couple instances where guys lost their shit and shot some people, one of which was with his issued handgun (SIG P220 9mm I believe).
That, and the general march towards political correctness and the feeling that with the end of the Cold War, there is no real need for a ready reserve force.
And yes, the Swiss Gov’t subsidizes military calibers, so you can shoot 7.5x55mm, 5.56x45mm, 7.65x21mm (.30 Luger) and 9x19mm fairly cheaply, but other calibers, like .357 magnum or .45 ACP are very, very expensive. I had a customer who was Swiss and worked all over the world…he said the most restrictive gun laws he’d run into was in New Jersey…
