Why Restrictions In Other States Are Restrictions On Everyone

If you live in PA for example you are restricted by NJ and NY gun laws. You’re also restricted by MD gun laws because you are not free to pass through them without abiding by their laws. So as an American, you have been restricted in your travels within “free” America should you carry or transport firearms. You simply can not do what you are accustomed to doing on your side of the line, have therefore been Constitutionally restricted without leaving the country and thus can easily become the next topic of a “Sad Story” thread.

If you own a business that produces restricted items then your scope of influence as well as your profit potentials are hindered. Someone has already taken from you and you are now additionally restricted.

Accompanied by the often brutal acknowledgment of this we also have compliance. People will either comply or they will risk arrest, but one thing they won’t do proactively as a whole is find a way to reverse the damage done within because there is someplace else left to go for now.

Anyone remember the Simpson’s episode where Aunt Selma was about to be killed by Sideshow Bob? Bart tried desperately to explain the obvious to Homer, even resorting to a hand puppet show.

At what point does the peril become apparent to all? At what point does everyone care, or do we really all plan to move to Texas one day?

This is a valid concern that is not usually talked about.in the grand scheme of thing’s it is more concerning then an all out fed ban. They are taking it inch by inch. And instead of one uniform ban we could have 50+ various bans that you have to try and fallow, essentially making you a prisoner in your own state ,or even your own county. Unless you give up your right to bear arms, then you can travel unrestricted all you want.“as long as you tow the line”

TEXAS

I had a debate about this with my wife this morning, laws should be universal from state to state. I am just so fed up!

Uniformity would be great, but the more disparate the values of the states’ populations become, the less likely that is to happen. Still, I have to wonder whether a true majority of residents of NJ actually support the draconian laws, or if it’s more of the same forced legislation we’ve seen with NY.

FWIW I agree that having the states fall one at a time as they are is cause for alarm, and it’s unacceptable that any state defy the constitution as they are doing. Of course, I am not in a position to do anything in those states, so grain of salt…

Problem with that is: they will one day be universally bad.

Canada has universal (all Federal) criminal laws. I don’t think it really would work in the US. It has issues even just in Canada.

Too bad we can’t actually do strikethroughs, for effect. Because THIS is what it’s coming to. Our right to BE.

MOSTLY… left alone.

And also to that point, how does this affect shipping of restricted items? Do semis have to travel around a restricted state to get to their delivery points? This will also drive up costs…

I hear a lot of Molon Labe crowd saying “just move.” Well this has already happened to Colorado.

The Libs from CA moved to CO and now CO is turning quite blue. It has happened to FL, NC, VA, VT, CT and a few other places I am sure I am forgetting. The “Progressives” enact rules that turn the place to shit - high taxes, unions, dysfunctional city govt, bad schools, ect. Then they leave the burnt out state go to another less regulated state only to start the same sick cycle over again. And there is a long line of politicians only too happy to pander to their brand of crazy.

In time, this progressive virus will spread to other unaffected states. Sorry Texas, your days are numbered too. Been to Austin lately? NY is a pretty conservative and rural state. It just has NYC attached to it. Same for CO but Boulder is the driving political force.

For gun owners, and attack on one is an attack on all. Get you head out of the sand.

This underscores my fundamental problem with taking gun control to the states. When the dust settles you will need a manual to know what is legal where. It would not be quite so bad if it were not for idiots like those in NY that do not even allow for grandfathering of previously owned magazines.

And 7 rounds??? what percentage of pistols are standard capacity at 7 rounds?

I cannot understand why almost all states have concealed carry but still do not trust their citizens with weapons

Makes no sense

Exactly, be careful what you wish for.

Austin has been wierd for decades. And most of those hippies are probably still pro gun (as more than likely they were raised around them). Plus Texas is about two times bigger than CO, it will take a lot more enfluence than just Austin to change the entire states stance on something.

Im sorry, but boulder is not the only “trendy-hippie-liberal” hangabout in Colorado. The whole front range feels like California.

I hear a bunch of the molon labe crowd whining about their state turning commie…MOVE. Take your dollars and gtfo. Money is what makes the world go round, take yours elsewhere.

Or you can stay and protest and demand change, or continue to whine about it while sitting on your couch telling people on the internet how tough you have it in “New-shithole-Jersey”.

And I dont watch the Simpsons, its garbage.

Agreed! FUCK universal. I’ll stay right here in a free state.

J-Dub you truly are one of the more insightful posters here. So much depth, always witty and especially combative regarding non-Texans.

By the way I agree, the Simpons are terrible now. Was good back in the 90’s though.

I would rather have decentralized local government than universal law covering the United States. Every attempt at making laws universal across states has resulted in more regulation, not less.

It isn’t just Austin. Obama won 60% of Travis County (Austin), 57% of Dallas County, 52% of Bexar County (San Antonio). Obama also did extremely well in El Paso, the state’s sixth largest city, as well as pockets of the Rio Grande Valley and Jefferson County (Beaumont).

Combative? Wow, you have been living in a limp wristed state for a while huh?

Heres the deal. Are gun control laws unconstitutional and idiotic (at best)? Yes. Especially at the Federal level.

However, does that mean Im going to pack my bags and head to New-shithole-Jersey to protest and fight for the cause? Umm no. Thats for the poor people that live within the cesspool we call NJ to do. (Or PA, MA, CO, ect)

Like I said before, you have options. Stay and fight, stay and whine, or leave.

I dont know why you are calling for everyones help, we dont live there, which means we dont have a say in what happens there. Btw traveling in “free Amerika” isnt an option anymore. This country hasnt been free for quite some time now.

And we all know exactly why those numbers are coming from those places. The people who WANT the handouts, vote for people GIVING the handouts. (you know the handouts WE pay for).

I guess its time to start attempting to educate people.

Agreed, sure. Personally I’m not advocating a national law, just a national minimal standard of sorts. A threshold that any one individual state or city can’t step across no matter how far to the left they’ve gone because doing so is finally established as being unconstitutional to any American.

So WTF are you advocating?
