I received the following from a friend that works for the local Sheriff’s Dept.
Everyone should have to watch this then maybe they will understand why cops shoot guys with knives.
Tough viewing for the squeamish. Los Angeles citizens should be forced to view this. . . .
WHY COPS SHOOT GUYS WITH KNIVES
THIS WAS AN INJURY THAT COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED.
DON’T BE A HERO…SHOOT, SHOOT, SHOOT.
The photos are of an officer trained in hand-to-hand combat.
The officer figured, due to his size and fighting skills, he could disarm a knife wielding aggressor. Not without losing blood!
Here is why I am forwarding these on.
To all the idiots out there who always say, "Why did the cops have to shoot him? He only had a (insert your choice of weapons here, i.e. knife, bat, club. whatever). He didn’t have to be shot.
To that, I respond, “tough crap … shoot’em”.
If an officer tells you to drop your weapon, just drop it.
If you’re a retard, stupid, on crack, mental or just “scared” … too bad. No one deserves what this cop got for just doing his job. If you got a knife, then you should die … period.
This is vivid proof of how deadly people who are “only armed with a knife” can be. Some of the public think that officers should try to disarm someone armed with a knife but anyone who has had training in knife fighting will tell you - even if you win you are going to get cut.
Keep this in the back of your mind when confronting someone armed with an edged weapon.
Was the officer not wearing a vest? I mean I know they aren’t knife proof, but my hell, it’d have to stop some of that you’d think.
I’m no police officer (yet, testing in 5 weeks), but wouldn’t someone with a knife at the very least warrant one step up the line as far as weapons? Say, a night stick or something, or hell, like the article says… shoot the bastard.
Was he wearing a bullet proof vest? I know they aren’t knife proof, but usually the knife penetrates by stabbing. Those look like slash wounds.
FWIW, I had a training Captain who was cross trained in a few different martial arts. One of those was a phillipine knife fighting art (can’t recall the name). He always told us that if you engage in a knife fight, you will get cut. No matter how good you are.
I hope he killed that knife wielding SOB!!! Anyone that complains about someone shooting another armed ‘only with a knife’ needs to be shown these pictures.
When you attend the academy, they will show you the Tueller Drill. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tueller_Drill Also, they will teach you that when someone comes after you with a knife, that is a deadly force situation. You do not use a baton. That is strictly a gun call.
Could be incorrect info in the story Bruce shared with me, I honestly wouldn’t know. In any case it was an edged weapon of some type and should serve as a vivid reminder to everyone regarding the dangers of such, or at the very least a warning to those who cheat on their spouses:eek: who own Samurai swords.
How come it is always the bad guywith inferior weapons and tactics who comes out ahead? I know that was addressed in the other thread on the PA SWAT shooting (JW777?).
Makes me not want to loose weight, I just might need that extra inch of two of padding.
Escrima is the Philipino martial art that stresses stick and edged weapons; usually a sword or very long blade. That guy was cut by a very sharp knife, most likely box cutter. Have been training in jiu-jitsu for several years, trained in knife tactics, bottom line: attacker with knife is a bad scene. You more than likely will be cut, even with training. All the training does is basically limit the amount of harm you have visited upon you and hopefully allow you to imobilize the attacker with certain techniques.
Even with my training, I say(one reason I carry) don’t bring a knife to a gunfight. Pull a knife, get shot.
