It works fine with IMR 4895 or slower powders…but AA2230 and Reloder 10x both short stroke just enough that the bolt won’t lock back…they feed OK.
It does it even with pretty hot loads…62 grain bullet at 2900+ fps. ( I cant get them any faster without flattening primers)
Does anybody know what buffer S&W puts in their AR’s?
Could it be that its sorta new and the spring hasn’t set yet (about 4500 rounds)?
The gas rings are all in 1 piece, and I don’t see any gas leaks.
Go to a slower powder. I suspect you are maxing out on pressure too soon, and by the time the bullet passes the port, there’s insufficient port pressure.
Another idea: what primer are you using? Any other signs of pressure? If using a soft Win primer, try using a CCI or Rem 7 1/2 and see how they look.
Also, what bullet weight are you shooting? If heavy, then definitely go to a slower powder.
I think you’re right.
I am shooting 62 grain bullets, CCI primers, no other signs of pressure…
I have settled on Reloder 15 because I have tried everything trying to beat the results I got with it…nothing can beat it…not in my gun. It gets 2,875 fps with excellent accuracy.
Varget was 100 fps slower, N-135 matched it (<<<not worth the xtra $$$), AA2230 couldn’t do it, IMR 4895 couldn’t do it…to name a few results.
I just figured that 2230 should work…since it appeared to be one of the “go to” powders for 5.56 ammo. I guess I was wrong:D …it wouldn’t be the first time.
