Why do so many people hate the M-16/M4?

Agree. If you understand how to do proper PM’s, how to lubricate the weapon, and to stay away from spent/bad mags, the AR/M16 is a fantastic weapon.

The problem with the majority of the AR shooters out there is that they buy the cheapest AR, the cheapest mags, the cheapest ammo, never do PM’s, never lube it and then fault the weapon when it doesn’t run.

Well I really have nothing against the piston design. I don’t think it is better but that is my opinion. I just have a little bit of a problem when I hear people call the M16/M4 utter junk. I just don’t know why.

True. They would never spend a dime on training as they already know how to shoot/fight with their AR.

I believe that the piston has a place. This place is generally in SBR’s and or weapons with a can on the end of it (or both).
