I think I’ve got an upper picked out that I like from BCM, but have been looking at lowers. What made you pick the lower you picked for your rifle? Simply manufacturer preference? Some technical reason?
I understand this may be a broad question and everyone will have different reasons, but I was just kind of curious I guess. Also the replies here may help me make a better decision.
I was looking at the Spikes lower that’s like $249.99 right now. I’ve been doing some research everyday in my spare time when I can though.
I had a spikes, built it and sold it. It mated up very securely to my LMT and alexander arms uppers. Bought it when they were $89. Now, I still have my LMT, and an Essential Arms lower. They’re setup identically with ambi safety, ergo pistol grips, and SOPMOD stocks. The Essential Arms lower mates to the Alexander and my LMT is waiting on a 6.5 16" barrel and bolt. I bought my Essential Arms lower strictly because they were the only reasonably available non-overpriced lower after 1/20/09
LMT complete lowers are about as perfect in a complete lower as you’re going to find… you get a SOPMOD stock, one of the best LPKs in the industry (not available otherwise), and a nice lower without a stupid fuckin animal stamped into the side for just over $400… you cant build a lower of that quality on your own for less.
otherwise, if i do build, i use Aeroprecision or Mega… just really well machined, cheap, and, again, no stupid fuckin animal.
My first stripped lower was a Noveske that I stupidly sold for $140 before all the prices went up. I got it because I loved the logo. I put an RRA LPK and it was simple as pie following the video on TOS.
Second was a MEGA and it has some sort of finish like Teflon and it felt so smooth. Sold that for $100.
The latest one was a complete LMT lower and the parts quality is awesome. The stock was very tight (sold it because I had an E-MOD kit) and the selector has a positive feeling to it. I haven’t felt that on other lowers i’ve tried. It is engraved to be registered as an SBR later this year. I want to put at least a case of ammo through it before I send the forms in.
My next one will most likely be an LMT with SOPMOD from the factory or a MEGA.
no problem… i chose my first lower by looks, which was costly and lame. I ended up with POF lower that was my most expensive, but least utilized lower. After that I carried a stripped colt upper to a gun show and asked if I could match some to see what the space between looked like. (yes, i know it doesnt hinder functionality, call it preference) For reference, I have:
