Who's using/used DD Omega?

For those of you who haven’t seen my others posts I am doing a few mods and am considering the Daniel Defense Omega 9.0" (Midlength). For one, I want to know if anyone has used one and their overall opinion of the quality/solidness etc. Secondly, I wanted to know, because DD hasn’t answered my emails, if the Omega midlength rail will clear a carbine low-pro gas block? I am assuming it will since it should not be using the gas block for rigidity considering it is “free float?” Thanks in advance…

DD sells there own low profile gas blocksand I know those work for sure. I am not sure about other gas block though.

I have a carbine length Omega. It’s very solid and easy to install. But it’s designed for use on an upper that you don’t want to screw with(fsb/delta ring)…would it work behind or over a low profile gas block? I suppose it would, but if you’re already screwing around with the gas block why not go one piece?

The Omega is rock solid(especially considering it’s design parameters), but a one piece(especially considering the price) would be “solider.”

I believe some of the Vltor low profile gas blocks will fit under an Omega, I have a DD gas block and it does not fit under my middy Omega, it will fit inside a Lite Rail though. Specifically, the lite rails without the holes along the bottom rail. You can also shave a FSB down but that’s a bit of a pain if you aren’t used to doing the work. I was picking metal slivers out of my skin for days after taking a dremel to one of mine. Next time I’m taking it to my metal shop and will use better equipment.

I used to run a carbine length Omega and still run a Midlength on my Sabre barreled upper. I love them, I have small hands so the thin-ish profile is very comfortable to me. Especially with XTMs on the rails.

I have a 7" omega on a 6920. they are rock solid, great rail for the money and ease of installation.

I have a 9.0 and a 12.0 and they have been excellent. I don’t have many rounds on the 12.0 but the 9.0 has been through a 2 day carbine course and it held up just fine. I like the slim oval profile and the ease of installation.

The gun already has a low-pro block, it is a Bushy O.R.C. so it is technically just a shaved FSB. Doing the metal work doesn’t bother me either, I do auto restoration so this is a regular part of my workday. That being said I’m not really thrilled with grinding on the gas block. With the MS Live Cashback at 30%, I might just grab the 9.0 Lite, this one requires removal of the barrel/barrel nut correct?

One of the guys at Talon talked me into an Omega 9.0 a few months ago when I bought a Sabre factory upper. I was hesitant about a two-piece design, but he said if I didn’t like it he’d take it back no questions asked.

I was thoroughly impressed. It seems every bit as solid as the two DD Lite rails I have on other rifles, feels about the same weight wise, and I really like the integral QD point for slings.

I just snagged another upper from PK that came with another Omega 9.0 and it’s great too. Omega’s will probably be all I buy now.

i have a couple 7.0s

i will probably buy a 9.0. they are good rails.

I’ve got a 7.0 on my 6920 and have two more being delivered today for the two LMT uppers when they arrive.

The Omega’s strength is the fact that it’s a drop-in. If you’re replacing the gas block anyway, the 9.0 Lite is the way to go, hands down.

The Omega rails are simply one of the best on the market. Rock solid and a good value.

I have an Omega 9.0 on my middy and it is a great rail. I also have a Lite 7.0 on my Carbine and it is an even better rail. As TehLlama mentioned, go with the Lite rail if you are replacing the gas block.

I have an DD 7.0 Omega rail on a 14.5" bbl carbine, it was so good that it prompted me to purchase another DD 12.0 Lite rail for a 16" carbine and also by one of DD’s complete uppers. All three DD rails are fantastic.

I run an Omega 7.0 on my 6920 because I want the option to return the Colt to stock. After using blue Loc-tite to secure all threads, I am not sure how any other rail could be that much more solid than the Omega (not to mention tool-less 10-minute installation versus a LOT more work plus permanent modification).

EDIT: “tool-less” other than your own flathead screwdriver and the supplied hex wrench, that is!

What he said. I have the exact same setup for the exact same reason. LOVE IT!

So easy even I can do it!

Very light, slim and looks pretty too.

Thanks everyone, still trying to decide if I want to jump in and mod the gas block to work with the Omega. Anyway, if I choose not to, does anyone have experience with the Troy MRF-M of VLTOR CASV-M? I know the VLTOR will work (checked with Bravo Co.) and the Troy is on a friends gun so I can do some side by side comparison to estimate if it will fit.

see that omega might fit over that ORC bushy gas block. You will have to cut out that cover though. I am not sure about this but couldn’t you run the 9 or 12 omega if you could get it over your gas block already? or would that be a bad idea? that is to say if you wanted to keep the delta ring on.

I have a rifle I just did this too. Carbine gas system and a DD omega 9.0. I used CMMG micro gas block it will clear. I have an extra one I would sell, if you go that route. Also PK Firearms has a low pro gas block that will clear the DD omega rails.
