Who will get an M&P 9/40 with a thumb safety?

I’m interested to hear how many folks will be getting the M&P 9 or 40 with a thumb safety, and WHY.

I won’t buy one, because I just bought a G17.
If they would have come out with this model first, then I would have bought it instead.
I wonder what the line of thinking at S&W was in releasing them in the order they did?
The G17 was bought in direct response to the election, a little panic maybe, but I figured I couldn’t go wrong with a G17.
Anyway, I think in time the M&P’s will become the standard of LE in the US.
My county sherrif’s have switched from Glock’s to M&P’s, as have the city police.

Don’t like 'em, Don’t need 'em

I have two young kids that will pile on me unexpectedly. I’ll take the extra safety for carrying. I know most people say it’s unnecessary but a quick search on youtube will show some guys with more training than me shooting themselves in the leg with glocks.

Here’s the most famous.

I couldn’t find the footage but there is film of one of the ATF agents raiding Waco shooting himself in the leg.

No. It’s directly in the way of my high/thumbs forward grip.

Yeah but both of those guys were idiots.

I’m hoping that the first M&P357 with manual safety is getting boxed up and sent to my FFL Monday …

WHAT? Does this mean that S&W is going to make the manual safety an option on the 9/40 models as well?

Yes. We’ve also been to the moon and discovered electricity lately.

Seriously, dude, this has been discussed in like five threads over the past month here and even more over at mp-pistol.com.

EXCUSE ME Mr Internet!

If this is the case I might have to get a full size and a compact!

Oh hell yeah! Spread the love:

Boris – I don’t think I’ve said anything really positive about the .40 since 1997 or maybe 1998. It certainly works, I just think it’s the hardest to shoot of the four major LE calibers (9, 40, 45, and 357). Would I shoot & carry one if someone was supplying the guns and ammo and told me that was my only option? Sure.

I’ve been a 357 SIG fan for a very long time.

I stand corrected in that you said you prefer the .40.

I was intending to ask more about the thumb safety specifically and if there’s an interest in the thumb safety on the 357 model versus any/all other M&P variants.

Just wondering if you’re a proponent of the thumb safety on all M&Ps or if the snappy recoil of the .357 warrants one more than any other caliber.

Thanks,

-B

That says it all

Boris – I wouldn’t say I’m a proponent. In fairness, I haven’t carried one set up that way yet, nor do I have any significant time behind one with a thumb safety.

What I do believe is it’s a good option. Some people clearly want it.

For me, I don’t see it being a recoil tamer at all. It’s another layer of safety both in terms of administrative handling and weapons retention. And since I carry AIWB, that has all the more benefit.

No thumb saftey because then it will be just like my GLOCK! And I love my GLOCK! GLOCKS are so cool, everyone has a GLOCK! Because GLOCKS are so cool! GLOCKS are so cool because GLOCKS are so cool! And everyone has a GLOCK! Why? Because GLOCKS are so cool and everyone has a GLOCK.

Yes, I love thumb safety keeping training similar, can’t wait to get a 9.

Holy Crap I can’t believe I missed this!!1!!11

:stuck_out_tongue:

Is the trigger pull on the thumb safety version the same as the standard version? I would think it would be lighter since it has a manual safety…
