Who uses DG switches on their carry guns w/ surefire light

I have been contemplating whether or not i should get a DG switch for my m&p 9L…currently i am just running the x300 without one but i have heard that the DG switch makes turning on the light easier and removes one more movement to getting the gun running in low light…from what i have seen they are about 80$…so roughly 400 rounds of 9mm.

Another question will they fit a standard holster with the switch on? such as a raven? i noticed the switch seems pretty slim.

Thanks for the info and as always pictures are cool!

I use one on my M&P. Works well, and as you stated allows for one handed manipulation of the light.

Holsters will be hit and miss. Some will require a bit of fitting to work well with the DG switch. The ALS holsters from Safariland take a bit of dremel or file work to clear the switch. Not a big deal, just something to be aware of.

ETA, the DG switch works fine with my Raven.

I use one. Sig P226 + X300. The part under the trigger guard rubs a little on my Safariland 6360 holster, but does not create a noticeable dragging or snug feel. I also have a Raven holster and have no problems with that either.

I run one currently on my g17 carried in a Raven LC phantom.

Running it in low light is awesome. Super fast getting the light on target but also great for one handed operation.

Really a pain in the ass to shoot in the dark while having to grab your 3 year old and get movin.

All in all ive been extremely happy with mine. it has been through at least 8-10 classes, classes ive instructed and daily carry and is still holding up great.

id recommend it.

Thanks for the info guys… I am gonna put this on the list of things to have done to my m&p.

Yup, I’ve had one on my G17/X300 for a couple years with no issues aside from some holster rub that is easily rectified. I usually carry it in a Raven on duty in plainclothes, and occasionally in a Safariland 6400 or 6280 on a duty belt.

If you do get some holster rub, and the cover starts coming off the switch, you can easily fix it and actually reinforce it by using a bit of high quality electrical shrink wrap, looks OEM and makes it much stronger.

Do it, you’ll never go back…

Dennis.

FWIW, I had to file down my 6365 and the plainclothes equivalent to fit the DG switch. Glad I did, though. Much better activation, especially one handed.
Fits fine in the Raven Phantom.

I like my TLR-1 over the X300 w/ DG. I just don’t care to have the pressure switch right on the grip, I end up NDing the light too much.

That being said if all I had was an X300 I’d go with the DG switch. I find the toggles to be absolutely awful on the X300.

Yea i agree that the toggle switches on the x300 suck…that’s the main reason im considering the DG…i think im gonna try and handle one first then decide

It all depends on your mission and needs. The ability to search one handed and open doors and do other things with your free hand is invaluable when clearing houses. Using paddles one handed either means constant ON or letting the light go off before you fire.

Light ND’s do happen with a DG switch, but then it’s not like the bad guy doesn’t know you are there when you are clearing a house or chasing him down an alley. You ARE using the light, hopefully only in short bursts regardless. If you are doing some super sneaky secret squirrel stuff maybe you don’t need a light on your gun…

If you are carrying for CCW it would seem that you would need everything possible including light if you ever draw your weapon, and it may well be one handed if you are holding back your family or going for cover or whatever.

Whatever makes you happy, just make sure you know what you ACTUALLY need the light for…

get with me in a class or at CRC if your shooting and you can run mine and try it out.

Hmm ill see you at CRC or the close contact shooting

I have a Surefire X200 w/DG switch and a set of Crimson Trace laser grips on my bump in the night / night stand G19. I would not change a thing on a that gun.

I used a DG switch for a while and ditched them due to muliple white light AD’s. This isn’t acceptable to me and my line of work. For the average CCW-user, it probably isn’t much of an issue. I currently stick to the toggle switches and have good results.

remind me and its yours to run.

Ok cool and thanks keith…i don’t think i am participating at CRC just going to get a raven holster made and hang out with people…but for sure ill give it a run at the CCC

Agreed. A bunch of guys use them at my PD but I’ve gotten used to the toggle. I’ve seen too many AD (light) with the DG switch. A weapon light requires lots of training no matter what switch you choose. Good luck.

Hmm… I had ADs with it when I first got it, but after a little bit of training it is no longer a problem. I can even shoot without the light coming on now.

Like NCPatrolAR, I had them on my duty guns and then pulled them off. Like most of the stuff I have from Surefire, they are well made and pretty rugged. I had to slightly modify my holsters, but it wasn’t ridiculous. I also had light NDs so I just liked the toggle switch better. I’m sure that it could be overcome with training but, for me, the benefits of having it didn’t seem worth the time input of having to retrain to use it.

Most that did their initial weapon mounted light training with the DG switch, elected to keep it. Me and one or two others don’t use them. I think that, with training, either one can be viable depending on your mission.

I’m not a fan of modifying my mastergrip based on an optional piece of kit. I dont like the idea of being in a stack, about to hit a house, and someone bumping me and causing my grip to tighten creating a white light AD.
