Most forums indicate A Smith & Wesson is really a Stag in drag…
I was told Olympic makes the Smith
Which is true?

Continental Machine and Tool.
Which equals Stag.

Which produces Stag.
In the strict, literal, linear thinking of legal reasoning, I’m correct. ![]()
That and Troy Industries makes the flip sights and rails.
I have it on good authority that S&W buys parts from a few different manufacturers. The lowers might be CMT, but the rest is contracted.
As a strict, literal, linear thinker of legal reasoning myself, Grant is nearly 100% correct. The few % points he is off are no fault of his. Perhaps someday I will explain the whole (simple actually) CMT/Stag relationship but to tell you the truth, who cares?![]()
Stag makes the whole weapon except for the Troy parts (and the box). ![]()
so, in general, would yall consider the M&P-15 an decent rifle? I got one last week but have yet to get to the range. It looks like its nice quality and has great fit, but looks can be decieving.
Yes I would.

I love my Smith.
It is my first AR so I am a little biased.
I’ve fired a couple and they are nice, well put together rifles. I wish they had used M4 style feed ramps, but that’s about it.
Stephen
I didn’t know that CMT/Stag made barrels. What name do they use to market them, or do they all go to in-house production?
They don’t. They run them through Shaw (like Colt does).
C4
If they don’t use M4 style feed ramps what style do they use?
How many styles of feed ramps are there and what are the differences? Which style is the best and why?
There’s a sticky in the AR Technical Discussion forum called M4 Feedramps. It should clear things up for you.
Bryson
Thanks for the info. on the sticky. It was great info. and well put together.
Jeez, cohiba, no reason to bring work into this discussion! I was just having fun!
Me too bro. Just foolin’
I try to leave work at the office door.![]()
Do these S&W guns have mil-spec receiver extensions?
Being Stag, I’d expect that, but I haven’t heard for sure.
Yes on the receiver extensions being mil-spec sized. Properly staked as well.
Thanks.
A friend is looking for his first AR, and the S&W will probably be a good choice for his needs.
