Who is currently making 6.8 uppers or barrels?

I am building a hunting ar and wanting a 6.8. I am wondering who is currently making full uppers or just barrels with the m4 feed ramps so I can build it.

Daniel Defense makes a great cold hammer forged 6.8 barrel, complete with M4 feed ramps…

Thanks that helps a lot.

I think all but Stag have M4 ramps.

I think constructor isn’t supposed to promote himself, but being unaffiliated I have no problem with promoting him. Check out his barrels and parts at:

http://www.ar15performance.com/home

His company is one of the bigger names in 6.8 SPC stuff. I don’t have anything 6.8 but have been using one of his 5.56 uppers for over a year with flawless results and high satisfaction.

Daniel Defense is good stuff also, and would probably be my second choice after ARP.

Ar Performance, Bison Armory, Palmetto State Armory, Wilson Combat, Daniel Defense, Yankee Hill Machine, LWRCi

I rate barrels:

  1. AR Performance or Bison Armory
  2. Wilson or DD
  3. Palmetto
  4. YHM

LWRCi is propritary but high quality.

ymmv

I’ll second that list but will add AR Performance only sells what is in stock and there is no waiting around for months not knowing when your barrel will show. The same cannot be said about bison.

Heres even more of a break down:

Ar Performance 5r rifled melonited barrels are probably the best you can get. In a black barrel.

Bison while a bit slow at times, (moved shop, death in fam, poor guy has had some issues) provides a very high quality stainless steel barrel. In bare stainless, black, OD green or FDE if desired as well.

Wilson or DD are cold hammer forged most of the time, as well as chrome lined, these while a good barrel are not imho as accurate as the AR Performance or Bison.

The Palmetto 6.8 barrels are either chrome lined machine gun steel or a chrome lined thin profile, they also make a stainless barrel that is in stock rarely. These are usually made my F.N. and are good quality and on par with DD or Wilson. The machine gun steel barrel have a heavy chrome finish and will hold up to a high round count very well but accuracy suffers a bit.

YHM barrels are the least desireable due to rifling and odd barrel end threads.

Thanks. I am ooking at arp, bison, and dd for my barrel.

Great break down. I have two Bison barrels and they are both great. A shooting buddy has two ARP barrels and they are great also. You can’t go wrong with either and they stand behind their products. Also look at ARP for a bolt as constructor makes a fantastic one. I have his bolts in both my 6.8’s.
If you are looking to buy a complete upper check out ironworks tactical. He uses ARP barrels in his 6.8 uppers and prices them well.

I was just looking at barrels, but i will keep an open mind.

Just to quibble a little…Wilson Combat 6.8 barrels are all stainless…http://shopwilsoncombat.com/68-SPC-II/products/396/ in a variety of profiles.

DD seems to only make their 6.8 barrel in their S2W profile, in 16" and 18". The 16" is heavy phosphate coated, the 18" is salt bath nitride (Melonite) finished. Neither one seems to be chrome lined.

I don’t see any mention of Noveske, but they offer both a regular profile and a lightweight contour profile 6.8 barrel, and both come with pinned lo-pro gas blocks. Worth considering if your funds allow it.

Chrome lining reduces accuracy in hopes to lengthen lifespan. I will not use enough rounds in the lifetime of cage barrel to worry about chrome lining. It is not a priority and i also want a coated barrel.

If you want a coated barrel then I would go with either the DD 18" of any of the barrels from AR Performance. They are all Melonite finished inside and outside, changing the surface of the steel to make it harder, slicker, and more corrosion resistant. Easy to clean, too. It’s not a coating per se, it’s a surface treatment, so there is no accuracy penalty to gain the benefits. Check it out. Constructor knows all about it…

I have heard a lot about arp and they are number one on my list, as soon as i am ready. They have a 16" socom fluted right now bun cant pull the trigger just yet.

You won’t regret an ARP barrel. Love the fluted barrels but If you can hold off you can save money by not going with a fluted one.

I have plenty of time.

Well, if an ARP 16" Socom profile 6.8 barrel is what you want, he’s got 7 left in stock at this time. He did have more, but I just popped for one myself. I also ordered his SuperBolt with it, so he will check the headspace with them together. One less thing to worry about.

If you miss this batch it’ll be good that you have plenty of time…because it sometimes takes a while before the next batch comes ready. But hey…just more time to save up for it.

I hope you won’t make the mistake I made and pop for something other than what you really want rather than waiting. Gets a little expensive when you replace what you settled for with what you really wanted in the first place… Good luck!

ARP now has one less 16" fluted. I have been kicking around the idea of building a 6.8 SPC or a 300 BLK for a while. I decided that since I don’t have an SBR and don’t plan on shooting any subsonic rounds, that the 6.8 made more sense. I researched 6.8 for quite some time, and I came to the conclusion that the ARP barrels were one of, if not the best for my intended use (target shooting, hunting deer and hogs, and doubtful but possible patrol duties). I plan on using a 13.5" Noveske NSR rail that I already have, and a Leupold VX-R 1.25-4 scope.
