Who cleans their AR-15?

I very seldom do. I just keep adding lube (Breakfree LP generously to the bolt, CLP lightly to the firing pin and everywhere else.) I use TAC powder which is not particularly clean, nor the dirtiest around.

Once in a long while I’ll do a good cleaning just so I can inspect the parts.

Google the article entitled “Cleaning your AR-15 Is Pretty Much a Waste of Time.”

Once in awhile I do.

I usually just throw more Slip or Hoppes in.

I run a chamber brush every once in awhile if I shoot alot of steel cased

I clean mine after every use. I have seen folks who don’t and it makes me cringe to see the amount of carbon built up on their bolt and between their barrel & flash hider.

Of course some of them are the biggest whiners of the AR’s serviceability in reliable functioning…

:stuck_out_tongue:

Here’s the article.

My rifles function perfect. I bet the function and pefrom better than most.

I dont whine about my stuff at all. The ONLY problems I have is when I shoot around 1500 rounds of steel cased without a chamber cleaning and I get FTE ONLY on steel

Brass still works fine though

I don’t have any doubts that your firearm will last 1,500 rounds w/o cleaning. But some people do not clean at all (their house/bathroom sort of resembles the same).

I guess I am just a little orthodox about my ARs and Glocks. Yeah might not be white glove but they get hosed down pretty good after use & it has served me well.

I just went and pulled my bolt out, and took these, special…for you

Haha I hear ya man. I know EXACTLY the guys youre talking about.

Also, something you didnt add, is that the SAME guys also dont use any kind of lubrication and get premature wear.

I can introduce you to LEOs right now that do this.

Oh, and their house is disgusting too

you have to clean them?

I keep my weapons, yes even my M4, clean and properly lubed. I feel a lot better every time I pull it out of the trunk when my life may rely upon it.

And I don’t care about any results in the thousands upon thousands of rounds in any “tests” that I have done myself much less what anyone writes in some article. IMO having your shit squared away, gear, weapons, yourself, is a better overall recipe for success. Or maybe I just like wasting my time.

I clean it every time I shoot, but only because I enjoy doing it.

I like to keep my weapons lubed and clean, functionaly clean that is. Very rarely will you see my 6920 or my glock 22/23 white glove clean, and then only because it is time for annual armorer’s inspection - I just want to make absolute sure that if there is a crack, ding, weak spot or excesive wear that it is picked up so it can be addressed.

Just my thoughts anyhow.

I clean it after shooting, every time.

I usually clean mine every other trip to the range. I usually shoot 200 rds per trip. So every 400 or 500 rds I clean it. If I really want to fondle the AR, I’ll clean it after every trip to the range.

I clean mine about every 500 rounds or so.

Depends on ammo but usually after 4 range visits which is 1200 to 2000 rds. Always lube every visit and the way it runs I know I can run it for a long time without cleaning if needed…

I as a rule clean all my guns after every use, maybe its because I was taught that when I was younger or probably more likely from military training. As grunts we were expected to maintain extremely clean weapons.

Especially as a machine gunner… if there not clean there not running.

It seems some people pride themselves on the lack of cleaning they preform. While there guns still run fine, I wouldn’t trust a dirty gun with my life. Also if your not cleaning it your probably not inspecting it properly either.
I guess for a range use gun that’s just fine, but that’s just not for me.

I was under the impression changing any of the carbon fouling in the barrel will result in a change of zero. Correct?

Cold Bore shots for instance, and how most well trained HOGs will leave their weapons dirty after putting them away to maintain consistency from shot to shot.

I don’t clean mine whatsoever.

In fact, my SIG P226 .40 shot like shit whenever I cleaned it, and it usually took about another 12-15 rounds to get it back to normal.

We have had several threads here regarding cleaning, lack of cleaning, lubing, etc…All of them simply degraded into nothingness.
