Who carries their AR pistol in a book bag? The reason I ask is because its a pain to have all the paperwork to take a short barrel across state lines . Contemplating a purchase of an AR pistol to fill the role of an SBR (or as close as possible) when traveling while maintaining concealment in a 3 day pack.

Liking this so far. It fits the pistol well and has roo. For other stuff.
Have you ever had any issues carrying your AR pistol concealed in this fashion? In particular in regards to issues from law enforcement?
Nope. That being said, I don’t kick it all over town with it either. And it is not obvious that its carrying a weapon. It’s much better than the tennis racket I used to use, which I had no issues with either.
So any particular situation you carry that in adjunct to your regular edc? I’m just curious…
It goes with me when I make any trips away from home overnight or occasionally when I’m oit doing errands, however living in a larger urban area I bahhave to be mindful of the criminal element because my vehicle doesn’t have a trunk to secure it in.
Alright this would fit the bill for me then. I can’t exactly conceal a registered SBR and occasionally it’d be nice to know I have a bit more just in case. I will always carry a handgun, but this will be a good addition I feel. Thank you for your input and advice in how to carry. It’s much appreciated.
No problem. Look at Hamlund tactical for better pricing also.

Other than maybe legalities, how do you suppose concealing will be any different with a pistol than sbr? You will still have the receiver extension hanging off the back so you won’t make it any smaller.
It isn’t the dimensions that I’m worried about. Its considered a handgun so it can be concealed… Its a handgun so it can be taken across a state line without the paperwork and etc. That a registered SBR would require. I have a DD Mk18 and shoot it often, but I also travel a lot. Most times I dont have the time in advance to fill the paperwork out and have it return as I only know my schedule 6 weeks in advance. Per the ATF paperwork of this kind is 90 days out at the moment.
Looks alright but does it not have a divider? Seems 2 me that for $100 it should be able to carry the upper and lower seperated without the two halves bumping & grinding on each other. But for a short barreled pistol carried assembled it appears it could be ideal if quality is up to snuff. IMHO
Why not just buy a $20 tennis racket bag from Wally world?
Does the trick.
EDIT: Here you go - same exact length and height as the 5.11 bag that is 4 times the price. A few inches narrower which isnt a bad thing.
A tennis racket bag works in some situations and with some body types. Carrying a tennis bag into an office building for instance would look a bit off, however a nondescript backpack would work.
So I ordered this bag when I picked up an AAC 300 Blackout pistol. I was wondering what your buffer tube set up is? I ask because I am thinking of trying to switch to a buffer tube that is a bit longer. I feel like a giant trying to shoot a youth .22LR with this pistol. Trying to decide if switching to a longer buffer tube and spring will remedy this issue for me.
I’m using the phase 5 pistol buffer tube. I have considered putting a law tactical folder on it to gain an extra inch length of pull, but haven’t been able to justify the price tag. Overall though I’m happy with the current set up.
I have this in black/brown.
Elberstock Cherry Bomb and Secret weapon are options as well.
Barrel length is important in the discussion. I’ve used a racket bag or a larger Kelty back pack as experiments. My guess is three day pack will be a tight fit for anything longer than 7.5" barrel based on my experience.
Sneaky bags are the top of the heap along with conventional back packs. 5.11 is not tier one, but functional.
Not the most sneaky, but the Bulldog case is racket bag inexpensive and heavily padded - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LbadiWIivjM
One question for the OP is whether you want something fast draw - back packs not designed for rapid access are going to be slow in many cases. YMMV.
I’m really not too concerned with it being super fast access… I carry a Glock 19 and 2 spare mags and in most cases I dont see this being deployed too rapidly. I know you never “plan” to get in a fight. This is primarily piece of mind that I can carry with me and still also have a rifle cartridge to shoot while out of town.
I had an AK pistol I carried around in a backpack for a few weeks. Its super heavy and pretty damn annoying to have on for long periods. I was thinking about building a lightweight AR pistol (c/f parts) and throwing that into something like a khard backpack. might work out better.
