While defending the 2nd, we lost the 1st.

No need to legislate censorship when you can train new generations to self-censor from childhood.

I cannot for the life of me understand why everything has to be PC. It gets worse with each generation.

If I ever have kids, boy are they going to be a menace is all I’ll say

" The warnings come as President Barack Obama has declared that liberal college students should not be ‘coddled’ nor ‘protected from different points of view’ on the grounds that they are ‘sensitive’. "

This is an honest to goodness true story: In a Master’s level accounting course at a large state university the class was participating in a discussion regarding PCAOB regulations and whether the current amount of regulation for financial reporting was “too much, just right, or not enough.” There was no discussion of race, class, gender, politics, nothing. It was strictly regarding financial reporting requirements. A pretty boring subject if you’re not an accountant…a typical comment would have been something such as “Well, companies already pay a fee to support the PCAOB at its current level of regulatory ability…increasing the burden of regulation will only lead to higher costs of audits and more fees for PCAOB budget increases.” I also must stress that in this class of ~30 not even the black females cared for Obama.

But, and again I must stress this is a true story, this “my parents are rich and I’m rebelling against the man” idealistic kid raised his hand and said “The government should regulate every manner of our life, so of course regulations are too lax for businesses. I mean, half of what you guys said offended me almost to the point of tears, and in a free society we would be able to regulate everything people say and everything a business does.”

The professor, a Ukranian who grew up in the USSR, responded in the most “Soviet” accent ever: “If you wish to live in such a free society, feel free to catch the next ferry to Cuba”

See…that’s what’s wrong with kids these days. Rebelling in MY day meant stealing a fighter jet, killing Libya, and saving your dad while listening to Queen. It meant beating up people who were all touchy feely. It meant using slurs and despising hippies. Except gothy art chicks, they don’t count because they are freaks in the sack.

People forget that Scarface was about the American Dream. Get it all. Get all you can.

That’s why I believe that Trump will get the black vote in spades.

But yeah kids these days. Didn’t grow up on Miami Vice or Wu Tang Clan so they can rot.

So–other than being a jobs program for “those who can’t do”, it was always about indoctrination of the young. God forbid we encourage the young to actually THINK…

Did you go to college or university?

Is that an Iron Eagle reference?

Wow. And you know what is really sad?

I am not surprised by this. At all.

My ten year old son LOVED ‘Iron Eagle’. No ambiguous good-guy/bad-guy dichotomy, gender bending superhero or any of that crap. I didn’t realize that the non-plastic F16 in the movie are actual Israeli planes.

That accounting guy needs to understand that ‘Free’ refers to freedom, not free shit.

This PC crap was getting rampant 20+ years ago, when I was in college. My anthropology class (a freshman/sophomore humanities requirement, not an in depth major study) wasn’t really about anthropology at all. It was gender studies, with heavy emphasis on the male dominance of ancient peoples tribal life and how it impacts the modern world view. My task was to analyze daily life of a pygmy tribe in southern Africa, and compare this to our modern way of life. That these peoples way of life had no relevant impact on modern western society did not matter; I was told ancient women were discriminated against on a primal level. For example, why was it that the women did all the work rearing children, foraging for foods and the like, while men mostly laid about, waiting to hunt. When the men did go into the bush and tracked an animal for days, why did they eat most of the meat instead of showing respect to the women by giving them first choice of the kill? These were actual questions posed to me, and were justification for why my analysis of this tribe, which “had ‘A’ quality, work” was down graded. I guess my male privilege has blinded me

ETA: un-autocorrected

Even thought the PC stuff does seem out of hand…I also see signs that not all the young people are buying into it.

My high school aged daughter and her friends laugh at the PC crap that goes on at their school. They all think global warming is a hoax and want to be able to say “Merry Christmas” and have a prayer before the football games. From talking to them…they all sense that things are “not right” in modern day America and that the PC nonsense is just that - nonsense. They are also not buying the whole “diversity is good for you” nonsense, either.

Many of them love stories of how things were for us in schools in the lats 70s and early 80s and stories from their grandparents about how things used to be. Some of them wished it could still be like that in America.

So yes, it is rampant in some places but from talking to my daughter and many of her friends in this Houston suburban public school…not all of them are buying into the nonsense.

…gives me hope.

Serious question - who would be surprised that 1 person in a group of 30 is completely brain dead? That seems to actually be lower than the rate among the general population.

“Did you go to college or university?”

Yup. Got a lot of credit hours including grad school.

On the other hand, my actual education–such as it is, mostly came from kicks to the head, used bookstores, and a few good people. Not to mention a hitch in the service. I’m a slow learner.

“I still don’t have many answers, but I do have a better idea of what the questions are.”

The Libyan “Migs” were actually Israeli Kfir’s:

I think we are defined by our decades.

Hippies think being a rebel is protests and loudmouthing.
But for me, it will always be indellibly marked of a buncha kids dressed up in uniforms blaring ‘We’re Not Gonna Take it’ and actually getting stuff done.

I guess kids these days just facebook or something.
