My future build will be a 14.5 with perm Phantom hider with a low mount gas block. Purely going for the look of the SBR without the hassle. Here is a mock up of what I think I want.
It will have a M4 profile barrel and this uses the 12 inch rail. My question is at what point will it become “too front heavy” and require a shorter rail? I know it is a purely objective question as to what is heavy to me might not be heavy to you.
I know I need to be over a 10 inch rail to hide the gas block but I would like as much rail as I can get to achieve the SBR look.
If the gun will have a carbine length gas system, you won’t need longer than a 10" rail to hide the gas block. All you’d need was a 9" rail to cover it.
I have a 16" medium weight barrel with a Troy 12" rail, and it isn’t too heavy. I also have an AAC blackout with suppressor mount which is heavier than your A2 or Vortex FH.
Stock is the MOE with ST-T2 buffer from Spikes.
Having no FSB takes a lot of weight off.
I reckon it all depends on what you are usiong the rail for. I am using a 7" rail and it works great for all my needs which currently consists of a place to mount my VFG. I use the Elzetta light mount which I love, very stable, places the light where I prefer, and frees up a lot of rail space. YMMV

What you see on the profiler is pretty much what I will get eventually. Maybe a green laser for giggles if they come down in price after the initial shock of the optic and light on this one.
