Which Rifle?

Well, I finally swallowed my pride and decided to ask for help from you guys here on the forum. I have a list of manufactures that my P.D. will let me chose from and I need help, advice or whatever you can give me. I have been trying to read as much as I could on this site but it seems never ending and overwhelming. I’m not asking for detailed info, but will help to shine light on the subject. If this has been talked about, I apologize in advance. Here it goes…

Colt - S&W - Bushmaster - DPMS - RRA - LMT - DS Arms - Armalite - LWRC - LaRue - Ruger - Saber Defense & Stag Arms

Are you buying for yourself, or using Dept money for your duty weapon? Have you seen the “Chart” describing features? Is your configuration limited to the basic M4, or can you get something more exotic?

A link to the “Chart” and pages of discussion.

Just my opinion, of the names you mentioned, in order

Colt
LMT
LaRue
LWRC
Saber Defense (although currently shutdown by ATF)
S & W
Ruger (only Gas Piston rifles)
Armalite
Stag
RRA
DSA
DMPS
Bushmaster

Buying for me with my own money so I can carry while on duty. As for the exotic part, we can put on is a Electronic Sighting System, flashlight, fixed / telescoping stock, picatany handguard, flip up/down sights and vertical grip. Where can I find that chart?

Read too fast like always. Saw the link to the chart

What’s your budget?

I say about $1500-$1800 total. Probably would do $2000 if I really don’t have to do nothing to the rifle.

Sticking to your list of choices I would say Colt 6920. Add the DD Omega X fsp 12 inch rail from Bravo Company for $179, an Aimpoint H-1 with Larue Mount from G&R tactical for $579 and you will have a hell of a set up for under $2000.

You should look at BCM too.

So this is a duty weapon. So to me, that rules out SS barrels.

That leaves: Colt, S&W BM, DPMS, RRA, LMT, DS, Armalite, LWRC, Ruger, SD and SA.

Now let’s look at who follows the TDP: Colt, LMT

These would be my considerations for a duty weapon.

C4

thats my setup but with LMT

I didnt see anything about not being able to use SS barrels. Wouldn’t that make the rifle a little heavier? What is TDP? I really like the monolithic rifles. A friend of mine has a piston LMT and that thing is awesome.

The rifle has to from one of the maufactures I listed. It’s been about 2 years since my PD has started carrying the rifles and the list of manufactures has gotten bigger. I’m sure with time and knowledge they will add different manufacturers.

SS generally is not as reliable as chrome lined. For duty use, reliability is number one!

TDP = Technical Data Package AKA Mil-Spec

C4

I looked at your setup and that would look really sharp. I was looking at more of a 9" handguard with a low profile gas block, front and back flip up/down sights and elec, sighting system. The reason why I put such a high amount was because of the monolithic rifles. I’m not knocking your idea and appreciate it. Ill still keep that in mind. Thanks!

TDP: technical data package. The set of mil spec specifications. Having a chrome lined barrel/chamber would not add any noticeable weight as this is merely a thin plating process.

Ah, got it. There is so much to learn. Rifles are like computers, always learning and something new is always coming out. Thanks!

could you do something like get a S&W/DPMS/whatever lower and put a BCM upper on it? Would your dept have a fit or notice, or is it complete rifles only

Although it’s not on your list, you might have a look at the Daniel Defense M4. It complies with the TDP and is a very fine rifle out of the box.

Fellas, he said that he had to pick from his list provided to him. We all know that there other quality rifles, but he has to choose from his list.

Check the chart brother. Great info there. Rob has been alot of help with assisting me with my rifle choice.

I’d go colt or lmt. Check the chart. Comparatively priced weapons with important listed features. I can’t believe how many manufacturers were left out for your options yet they’ll let you carry r

ra, dpms or bushy. Goes to show how much some leo really know about this topic. This is not only a question of quality, but a question of safety.
