Which rail should I get for my AR?

This is my AR. I’ve been wanting to install a free-float rail from Larue Tactical on it for a little while now. I’ve narrowed it down to 2 choices. The 12 inch and the 13.2 inch rails. I have a 16 inch barrel. I wanna have more real estate on my gun but I don’t wanna have so much that it’s ridiculous. Which one do you think I should get? Is 13.2 too much rail?

I love how my foot made it into the pic. I’m such an awesome photographer. They don’t teach that in the Corps.

I can’t help you on the rail but how do you like the Magpul AFG?

I love it so far. But I think it would also do me better service on a longer rail, so I can have my hand placement further up on the weapon.

What do you want to mount on there that you can’t in it’s current configuration?

I wanna be able get mount my surefire and foregrip higher up on the gun. I just wanna have more room in general for whatever set up I might come up with in the future. Lights, lasers etc. AR furniture in general. With my current 7 inch rail I don’t have too many options and I’m practically forced to mount my light on the right side of the weapon.

The one I really like is the Daniel Defense OMEGA-X 12.0 FSP Rail… I almost went with one for my current rig but decided to go with a Yankee Hill FF quadrail and use the extra money for a new EOTech XPS…

I think 13.2 might be a bit much on a 16" carbine…

Yeah I kinda feel the same way about the 13.2. Thanks for the heads up on the yankee hill. I’m gonna check it out here in a minute. And just out of curiousity, why do you think Mark Larue is an asshole. Haha.

I really like the Yankee Hill quad rail… I went with the lightweight version and it is working great.

i would go with the 12" Larue.

Kinda jealous, my Storm case didn’t come with a “tactical toe”.:stuck_out_tongue: Seriously I would go w/ the 13 in. personally, I think long rails both look better and are way more functional. Look at how many people are saying their AFG isn’t compatible with their 7in. carbine. Better too much rail than not enough imho.

I vote for the 11’’ Larue.

It’s not difficult to crop using Photoshop. Even Marines can learn how to do that.

GO ARMY!

I have the almost the same setup on my colt as you. I’ve been in the same quandry 13" or 12 inch rail system.

For the prices of the Larue, have you thought about the Troy 12 MRF, you wouldn’t have to take off your Front sight. Just have to cut the Delta ring off and put it on with the 12 inch.

The only reason I say look at it is this, at the moment, I’m building two AR’s I know I want to use the White Oak barrels but I am agonizing over having a standard front sight or or a flip up one, and I know longer the rail the longer the sight radius. I’m in your line of thought the 13 inch or 12 inch rail on the carbine.

I’ve seen the longer rail systems on the carbine length rifle, and man they do look sweet. 12 to 13, I would lean to the 13 can’t hurt for a little more rail space.

The power of Photoshop. Took me all of 10 seconds with the clone stamp.

Have you ruled out Daniel Defense?

No use in getting rid of that great FSB in lei of some flip-up or rail-mounted sight. Get a Daniel Defense Omega X 12.0 FSP and you’ll have all the real-estate you’ll ever need, you’ll get your support hand out further and you’ll retain that FSB. You’ll even have a quick-detach sling socket.

Hahaha. I don’t have photoshop. But thanks guys. You have really given my toes a full court press. I love it. And thanks for the suggestions guys. I really appreciate it.

I agree…

Here is the TROY MRF-CX M4 extended length…It would look real fuckin nice ont hat rig.

I agree as well… If you have the $$$ look into the DD lite 12.0

I just ordered an 11" LaRue for my 16" carbine, so I’ll let you know after I install it.
I bought the 11" rail because I eventually want to SBR it with a 12.5" barrel.

My SPR has the LaRue 13.2" rail on an 18" barrel (LaRue Stealth upper) and it is a sweet combination.

10" LaRue on mine.
