I have been milling over which gas upper assembly is king out there. There are a few products/companies ommitted, because of a few negative testimonies when shooting 600-800rnds a day in training. Thats why the list is short.
But which one is king?
The HK is nice, but has anyone had any face time with the Barrett and or Colt product, and if so what was the weight and accuracy?

The HK is king because it appears to be the best gas sytem available to date.
From what I am told, the Colt system is a cheap reproduction of the HK and most likely will never come out.

I think the HK is the best piston upper, but I don’t think it is head and shoulders above the rest. I defer to Larry Vickers, get the HK if you can but the LWRC will do in a pinch.
The one choice left of the list…should also be considered imo

Looks like the HK416 is king, and is going to stay that way.
It’s the only mil-spec gas piston upper available.
(available being a relative term)
The Colt will out perfrom the HK if they decide to produce it. They have enough on there plate and dont need to so we may not see it.
There are also some more comming out that will be nice.

How can you compare the performance of a production weapon with something that hasn’t even been produced past the prototype stage?
What about the Yankee Hill Machine/ ZM Weapons LR 300?
The ZMs are not piston driven. They are modified DI.
Although technically simmular I have not recieved any feedback at all possitive or negative regarding the Bushmaster. However I have recieved POF feedback. Thats why. But i’m sure they’re going to have simular track records.

Not technically similar, they are the same upper.
POF / Bushmaster / DSA= Same Upper
Not up to public flogging but you can IM me for info. I think it works for most citizen applications though.

Not to step in but Colt and Barrett’s products already have a few SF CK’s.

Thats why Im looking for open dialog with real hands-on. If you have it then please pass it along.

Yep. They are all the same.
In thinking about this question, I think we are going to need to know more than what we know now.
There is no TDP for these systems, so we don’t know what type of components the various manufacturers use. Nor do we know what quality control processes they use.
So we don’t know what standard to which they are built. So we have to assume the standards that they are built to is directly related to that company’s experience and reputation building weapons.
Then the only logical conclusion would be:
#1 HK or Colt depending on your religion.
#2 LMT
#3 Everyone else.
Barrett has some excellent QC too?
They actually had the piston in early 06. But not sure why the G17 low exposure.
