With my next bonus check I’m planning on getting an Aimpoint for my new BCM carbine (photo below), with which I am hoping to take a carbine class this spring.
From everything I’ve read here, one of the Micros would be the best choice.
QUESTION No. 1: T1 or H1? The H1 evidently does everything the T1 does, with the exceptions of night vision (which I’ll never use) and is submersible to only 5 meters, which is about 3 meters more than I am. Aside from avoiding the scorn and ridicule of real men, is there really any reason for me to get a T1?
QUESTION No. 2: I already know that I will want to go with a lower 1/3 co-witness mount, but which one? G&R has package deals for both the T1 and the H1 with either the LaRue or ADM mount. I have a LaRue mount for the ACOG on my BCM middy and I know how good it is, but the ADM seems to get good reviews also and is a few dollars less expensive. What is the general concensus on the LaRue v. ADM mounts for the Micro Aimpoint?
My understanding is the submersion specification for the H1 is underrated. It would make sense from a manufacturing process perspective, the construction of the H1 and T1 are actually the same. Accordingly, your H1 is just as submersible as the T1, and now, both come in matte black. If you don’t need NV, don’t spend the extra money for it.
As to ADM vs. LaRue – I like LaRue products, and their customer service is legendary. I have friends who use the ADM mount as well, and they are happy with the quality.
If Grant sells both brands, you can be assured they are quality products.
H-1. I got the T-1, because at the time the H-1 only came in gloss black. Now that they’re both available in matte black I see no reason not to get the H-1.
I have the LT mount and like it just fine. You might also consider the Daniel Defense mount. It’s lighter, sleeker and less expensive. If it had been available at the time, I would have bought it, as I find the QD feature unnecessary. I can’t remember the last time I took my T-1 off, nor do I see a reason to take it off (quickly) anytime in the foreseeable future. FWIW, I plan on switching to the DD mount sometime soon.
However, if you want a QD mount, and/or envision the need to take the optic off and put it back on with reliable return to zero, the LT mount is typically great LaRue stuff. I have no experience with ADM products.
Since NV capability in not an issue I would go for the H1 w/ LaRue mount. I have several LaRue items and all are excellent, I will admit that my experience with ADM is limited.
I just ordered the T1 w/ the LaRue only because the boss is getting some NV with a technology grant otherwise I would have gone for the H1.
I have both a T-1 and H-1 and if I was going to buy another it would be the H-1 again. For my needs the T-1 isn’t worth the extra expense. When it comes to mounts you have to ask yourself if you really need a QD mount. I have some LaRue’s which are all top-notch, but on the SBR pictured I have no need to take the T-1 off. My front sight is fixed and the rear is a flip up BUIS so I wanted a light sturdy mount that would stay in place and not be taken off. The Daniel Defense fit the bill nicely.
