Which magazines?

Okay, I just built my first AR and I need to purchase some magazines for it. What do you guys reccomend? I am looking for 30 round capacity.

Get some PMAGs from GandRtactical.com.

Then get some USGIs from Bravocompanyusa.com.

Both should be banned by the way!

I have a certain unreasonable affinity for O-Kay GI magazines. Of course I replace the follower with a Mag-Pul self-leveling unit. Good to go. Don’t really know where to buy them, mine come from Uncle Sugar.

I am waiting to put some DSG FDEmags through the paces. Supposed to be some of the best of the aluminum bodied magazines out there. I ordered mine with the magpul followers and ranger plates installed.

The Magpul P-Magis apparently the heat. Not only a super performer but cheap as well. And you can actually stuff 30 in and be able to seat it on a closed bolt. I am hoping that they will produce one with the ranger plate built in or as a replacement. I haven’t been able to use them yet, but if they work out I am going to be switching over to them exclusively.

Yeah Stick, we get it, you get all the cool toys first :stuck_out_tongue:

I know that Magpul isn’t telling us release dates anymore, but I really want these damn things.

And for those of you keeping score at home, he currently has (3) things we mere mortals cannot get:
UBR (pre-production, blah, blah, blah)
PMAG with Ranger Plate
Magpul Lower

1/2 point for originality with the KNS take-down pins.

I can’t answer for Magpul on release times, but I’m allowed to show pictures of these, so its the best I can do for right now.

If it makes you feel any better, I only have one of the PMAG Ranger Plates, and I have to keep changing it around between the 20 and 30 round PMAGs when I take pictures.

If he continues to taunt, we can call IAD on him.

Is there any advadtage/disadvantage to the aluminum vs the magpul?

What is the ranger plate and what does it do?

PMAG’s are stronger (ready crush proof), and come with a dust cover.

Ranger plate goes a couple things for you. It absorbs shock if the mag hits the deck, aides in pulling the mag out of a pouch and acts as a mono-pod when shooting in the prone position.

I’ll cast another vote for PMAGs. If you’re just getting started in the world of ARs, save yourself some time and trouble and get 10 PMAGs. That’s a good starting point. They won’t bend or dent like aluminum mags will, they can easily be loaded to full capacity (30 rounds) and still be seated on a closed bolt, and they come standard with anti-tilt followers. They’re also very reasonably priced considering how well made they are.

I could go either with a good aluminum mag or the PMAG. I’m leaning more to the PMAG. I only have about 17 PMAGS now. There will be more in the very near future.

P mags are the winners.

I’d buy either one. I’m still holding back on Pmags for a number of reasons. Chief among them being that I don’t have any issues with my aluminum mags- yet. When I do, its Pmags for me, all the way.

I bet my life on P-Mags every day; It’s all I carry. USGI mags are obsolete. Even though they may work fine- you can bend the shit out of them if you have to hit the deck hard.
They eject better and actually hold 30 rounds too.
