I hope this is the right place to post this. (new to the site). i cant decide on whether to go with the daniel defense 7.0 lite rail or the 9.5 fsp. I was wondering if the 9.5 would prohibit me from getting a basic sling swivel. Also this is my very first AR. So i was hoping you veteran AR owners could give me some pros and cons on both. Thanks
no sling swivel use with the FSP… it’ll need to be removed to put the rail on. but you can buy a rail-mounted sling-swivel that you can put in the exact same spot, if you wanted- although there’s better places to have it.
pros- more rail space for lights and support-hand grip.
cons- heavier, more expensive
i’ve used the FSP rails, i like them. i’m actually sort of half-assedly looking for the one you’re considering right now, in fact.
It won’t prohibit you as bkb said. It probably comes down more to gear. If you’re looking for a pretty simple setup, the 7.0 is one of the best and eastiest to install. For more rail space, obviously the FSP is good. For noobs, installing the 7.0 is pretty straightforward.
I generally use one on any rifle I have that has standard FSB. I just have a light and VFG on mine so 7.0 works. If you have big long monkey arms, the FPS might be better if you use a VFG/AFG way out front. I have little oompa loompa arms.

installation is actually identical for both, except that you have to remove the sling swivel for the 9.5… and that’s accomplished with one or two whacks to a punch

The DD’s rails, both FF and non-FF, are the lightest on the market correct?
Might be worth considering the 7.0 OmegaX (uses the Lite barrel nut, but has integral QD swivel on the aft part).

Is the only big difference between the lites and the omegas the way they are installed? (one piece vs two pieces) and the way they are attached?
well there’s the omega, and then there’s the Omega X… the omega doesn’t require any dissassembly of the weapon. the omega X requires just as much disassembly as the lites, but you can take the handguard sections off for cleaning/maintenance. the lites are more secure, and 1 ounce lighter, but require disassembly and you can’t really remove the handguard without another disassembly.
ETA: and the lites have no integral QD sling attachments… both Omega rails do.
sheesh… when you think about it, the lites are almost kind of obsolete…
When you say it like that i almost wanna get an omega x instead of a lite… hell i think i might do that instead 
… My ar already has an omega x on it… will there still need to be disassembly since it already has the mount on it?
if it’s already got an omega X on it, just unscrew the screws, and screw on the new one. that’s super easy.

Ive got the 12.0 fsp. It came with my upper…its just too long
How tall are you? How do you run your light? More importantly, how far out on the rifle can you comfortably grab on without changing your grip when you go from prone to kneeling to standing?
Back when my shooting and setup was based on pictures instead of training(not saying this is your situation,) I would have had zero use for the extra rail space. But I’m 5’8’’ and today I run my hand just behind where the FSB is on a carbine length gas system(like with my thumb damn near touching the FSB,) and greatly prefer to have some sort of push button/toggle at least that far out so that I don’t have to change my hand position to hit it.
The 7.0 rails are long enough for people my height to get a good extension to better drive the gun, but they aren’t long enough for my light to be in an ideal place.
You can reach a serviceable compromise on a 7" rail, plenty of people with a hell of a lot more experience than me are happy as clams with them and make it work, and my first AR is still set up with a 7.0 and works fine, but is not the way I’ll do it in the future. Just some things for you to think about before you dive into this purchase.
My hand place ment is very close to the magwell and im just a few inches taller than you so i dont have lengthy arms to worry about. As for the light couldnt you get a barrel mount for that?.. thanks for the insight
If I were to move it off of the rail I would look into the FSB mounts. But if your support hand is that far back then the shorter rail shouldn’t be an issue whatsoever.
Yea…i thinkn the shorter system would be more practical for me. plus the shorter rails visually please me more
except that as he trains and learns the benefit of a more forward grip, he’ll probably want his hand farther out. haaaaaahahahahahaa…
OP- i don’t like 12" rails anymore either. i did the long rail thing for a couple years, and i’ve gone back to light-weight/better balance. however, it’s quite possible i’ll go back… maybe a slightly longer rail… then maybe i’ll get the hookup for some free steroids and want a 12" rail again… my point in all this: save the 12" rail after you do the swap, you might want it in the future.
