Which is a better buy?

Hi there I already purchases my lower a LMT a defender with fixed stock, the problem I am having is which upper to get. The ones I looked at so far are CMMG, and Sabre Defense, on the CMMG I can upgrade to a Vltor MUR reciever for $105.00 exta is this really necessary? And on the Sabre it is just thier standard reciever hand guard ect. Has anyone had any issues with either compays products? Any one have any other suggestions as uppers go thanks.

Any reason not to go with the LMT upper?

Yes I already have a 16" LMT upper I wanted a 20" upper I don’t think LMT makes them.

Ah, didn’t see anything in your post about 20".

Sorry I should have explained a little better.

SD is of higher quality than CMMG IMHO. The down side to them is that it is nearly impossible to get anything out of them.

What do you mean by getting anything out of them?

SD is heavily back ordered on barrels.

I can’t speak for Grant, but getting thier product in stock seems to be a big challenge for most dealers. Sabre’s primary customer is still the US .gov contracts for M2 barrels, etc. As a result, commercial AR deliveries are usually a little slow. However, the finished product is worth the wait in my opinion. They make a very nice rifle & make some of the best barrels available. Thier customer service also seems to be very good as well. I’ve never heard a negative CS report on them.

ETA: Grant beat me to it!

OK thanks for replys even though the CMMG offers a Valor MUR reciever the SD is a better upper and barrel.

The VLTOR MUR is one of the best receivers on the market IMHO. The SD upper receiver is on of the nicest forged ones I have seen.

SD barrels blow just about every other manufacturer out of the water IMHO.

Thanks Will be buying a SD.

I know they are expensive and hard to get, but I’d be interested in hearing your thoughts about thier barrels in a little more detail. Can you expand on that? I have an SDI upper and agree, but I’m just interested in hearing observations from someone who has the opportunity to see a large variety of equipment.

PS- do they HP test also?

Really what makes their barrels special is the barrel steel they use (CMV). This is about the most expensive, combat grade barrel steel there is.

I believe that they MP batches of their barrels, but we have ordered them so that each barrel HPT/MPI is tested.
