Picked up a 16" carbine upper with a micro gas block. Can anyone recommend which buffer I should use or start with?
Did you bother searching? At all?
Yes sir, I did search. Came back with a shit ton of info, nothing of which had to do with buffer weights.
What brand upper? Semi-auto BCG or F/A BCG?
Carbine-gas-length uppers, depending on brand, can be overgassed and an H2 does wonders. You have to start somewhere and my guess is an H or H2 buffer is what you’d land on. It’s a balance between reliability and cycle speed. It’s generally a good idea to have multiple buffers on hand and see what works the best in YOUR rifle.
Depends on the gas port. If it’s an .063", and H2 is the ticket.
If it’s larger than that, you might start with an H3.
You can find a lot info on here about buffers. But, with a 16" mid-length I really like my H buffer, I use to have a CAR one as well.
I may try for a H2 for mine, though realiabity has not been a problem yet with a H.
If I were I’d buy a H1 or 2 buffer then run it and see what happens. With .223 and 5.56.
H2 most closely mimmicks the Rifle buffer system… which is what you want.
An H3 will help tame a moderately over gassed carbine.
I only run an H on a 14.5 middy which has comparably much less dwell time.
