I’m going to build an upper but I’m undecided about these two barrels,

Interesting that the twist rate on the Delton isn’t listed.
Get the Daniel Defense… hands down it’s the superior barrel.
A good alternative to either of those, if you like stainless precision barrels is this:

First off, as usual, what do you intend to do with your rifle/carbine? This will help us determine which profile to recommend and maybe even barrel length. Is this you first build? If it is, you might want to go with a 16in. barrel with a midlength system.
Between the two, based on brand alone, go with DD. Or checkout BCM as well and even Centurion and Noveske should you want to go higher spec.
This right here. DD or BCM would be my choices, as far as govt vs lw, I’d go lightweight. But it’s really up to your intended use.
BCM LW Midlength 14.5’'.
Or Centurion Arms Midlength 14.5’'.
I’ll use it for self/home defense, plinking, and I’ll carry it when i go hiking (my property) I’m really interested in the Rainier Arms barrel, the main reason I was looking at the Del-ton barrel is that it comes with everything needed to build an upper, except the upper. (if that makes any sense) Has anyone used the Rainier Arms barrel, if so could you post pics?
Which Rainier Arms barrel? I checked their site and all the barrels listed under their name are stainless. Why a stainless? With the purpose you posted, youre better off with a good milspec barrel.
I decided to go with a middy, I was thinking about building a RECCE, I’m looking at the Del-ton middy barrel, I can get it in 1:7 twist
I’m going to go with a BCM middy barrel. What length should I get?
Go with the 16" tube.
It lends you greater flexibility (I.E changing muzzle devices) ,unless you opt to go the NFA route with a 14.5, and w/o resorting to a pin/weld on a non NFA 14.5.
Centurion Arms 14.5" Midlength is what I would buy.
Go with the 16"! As Germansynergy, and others, have stated it will allow you to switch out your muzzle devices as well as making adding/subtracting barrel parts easier.
Otherwise you’ll have to pin and weld your muzzle device OR go through that BATF song and dance to get an SBR lower.
Granted removing a pinned/welded muzzle device isn’t that difficult… it is almost always 100% destructive of the device in question. Which means you’ll have to spring for a new device and have it pinned and welded. That means lost time and money that you could have spent on ammo and a carbine class.
