I have two AR’s, one of which needs to go to finance a different project.
One of them is a complete factory RRA Varmint A4 with 18" bbl.
The other one is a Stag lower with RRA 16" post ban upper and VLTOR fixed stock.
I am leaning towards selling the Varmint A4, since I don’t do any precision/long range shooting with it, and it mostly sits in the safe, while the 16" RRA has been with me to competitions and ranges for a while.
I am curious to hear other’s opinions on pros and cons.
Without knowing what your new project is…Don’t sell either of them. Save, cut back buying beer (or, whatever) and work on getting the $$ together another way.
For what it’s worth…right after I got off active duty and was starting college, I sold a beautiful (at least to me) Remington 7mm, bolt action, full floating barrel, synthetic stock and a scope, in order to buy a computer for school.
I’ve ALWAYS regretted selling that rifle, just 'cuz and realize I could’ve financed the computer another way AND kept my rifle.
I hear you boondock. The new project is another AR. A few months ago I sold a 700PSS that was gathering dust in the safe. I may end up keeping them both, but just don’t see the point of having rifles that I almost never shoot in my safe (that’s what M1A is for ).
Finances always work their way into any deal I am about to do, especially when I’m torn in the decision and it’s a big ticket item.
IMHO, I say keep the factory gun as it will usually hold value better than a parts gun. But I agree that you should keep both if you can. If I were to sell one to finance another project, I would do so only to upgrade. I wouldn’t sell a RRA for another RRA or Bushmaster. Step up to Tier 1 or keep what you got. YMMV.
if its for another AR i would just sell it. your replacing an AR that your seldom to never use and which is sort of a niche gun for an AR that would be used often and can be used for a more wide variety of things.
