Which American Defense Recon Scope Mount for NightForce 2.5 x 10

I have researched this for hours and would like some feed back from experience please. I am looking to mount the NF 2.5 x 10 on a Noveske Recon 6.8 VIS, rear troy BUIS. I am stuck between the standard Recon, the Recon H and the Recon X…

  1. Will the standard Recon clear the Troy(I believe it does).
  2. Advantage’s of the Recon H ( aprox 1/2 inch taller)?
  3. Recon X on this setup vs the Recon?

sorry if I missed it but I tried the search function multiple times with negative results. Bobby P.

1.) The Recon/Recon-X both easily clear the troy rear buis…

(best pic I could find that illustrated a clear gap b/t the optic and rear troy buis)

2.) The Recon-H is the only one I wouldn’t get for your particular needs. The advantages of the Recon-H is that it’s made for more “heads up” optics like a fast acquiring 1-4x type.

3.) Both the Recon or Recon-X should work perfectly for you, I personally always roll w/ the X versions simply because I cannot see how it’s ever a detriment, and ultimately yields a little more flexibility in mounting should the need arise in the future w/ regards to a new optic or host rifle.

A pair of NXS compacts/Recon-X mounts…

Agree with previous, I use the AD Recon and my scope clears my rear buis with room to spare. I currently have a Leupold Mr/T 1.5-5x mounted, which is smaller than your NF, but previously had a larger Vortex Viper on there that would be similar in size, and again the Recon worked fine.

I had to use the Recon-X to clear my Samson BUIS but the Recon H should clear most other manufacturers rear BUIS.

ok, I just saw a picture of a scope mounted on the Recon H and it looks ridiculously high. I wouldn’t think 0.46" would make a big difference! I thought it would be beneficial to be slightly more heads up, I guess it would be nice to do a side by side comparison, but that isn’t going to happen.

Trident or anyone: what do you think of the NP-R2 Reticle? It seems like it would be ideal for the 6.8 and someone who isn’t good with metric (like me)?
Also wondering about the zero stop on this platform with the 6.8… keeping in mind the furthest shooting possible where I am is 300 yards.

I have the 2.5-10x32 with NP-R2 - no complaints, the hash marks are easy to pick up.

MIL or MOA based does not really matter except the math for ranging is easier with MIL. Both are just fractions of an ark - the MIL is based on 1,000 (one mil at a 1,000 inches is one inch, one mil at 1,000 yards is one yard, etc, so in some respects it’s easier).

ETA: I have the ZS and think it’s well worth the money, but I shoot at longer distances that require dialing the turret a full turn or more (old style turrets). I can (and have) had a brain-fart and return going the wrong direction - on another scope someone did that for me. The ZS lets me know I’m back to my zero. For 300 max you might even consider covered turrets.

If you are buying a precision scope, I think an extra high mount would completely defeat the purpose and make it impossible to get a good cheek wield; especially from prone where it’s about impossible to hold you head up that high.

Ok thanks guys, I am beginning to get it. The Recon X gives you an extra 1" on the off set which is more important in regard to the traditional flat tops for putting the scope more forward for proper eye relief.

I am going with the NP-R2 and Recon thanks
