I just got the Comp ML3 with La Rue mount for the holidays and LOVE IT! Only shot with it once, under 100 rounds, mostly to sight it in, but I can’t say enough about how much easier it makes everything.
I asked for the “3” model because I like the choice of having a 2MOA dot w/o paying for the M4, and the ML over the M because I never see myself using any type of NVD.
Over time, Aimpoint models have proven to have a much longer battery life for one. Aimpoints have also always been easier to manipulate with gloves on. This is an issue that Eotech I think has fixed with later models. But those are my 2 biggest reasons for going with Aimpoint optics. Among others of course.
I like the Aimpoint Micros, the T-1 and H-1. They do everything I need an Aimpoint to do in a small, lightweight package. I had an M4S, and while it was an awesome optic, I found no advantage over the T-1 considering the increase in size and weight.
I also had an EOTech 512. I like the EOTech reticle, but I don’t care much for the overall design of the sight. Many of the models are fairly bulky, and the controls suck IMHO. I don’t like the little buttons for up/down in brightness and on/off. Moving the buttons to the side on newer models was an improvement, but putting crappy controls in a better position is a small step forward. I’d prefer a simple rheostat like Aimpoints have. The newer, smaller EOTechs (like the XPS2) address many of the old problems. If I were to buy any EOTech today that would be my choice. An XPS2 with a rheostat control on the side and which has proven itself to be rugged and reliable would be something I’d give a serious look at.
Until that exists I’m happily sticking with my T-1. Now that the H-1 is available in the matte finish it’s an excellent choice, unless you need night vision compatibility. Then the T-1 is the answer.
Same here, for generally the same reasons. If I need to shoot at night, I use a PEQ device, and wear my -14s over my non-dominant eye, anyway. Coughing up extra scratch for settings I had no use for didn’t make any sense, though I wanted SOME water resistance and a couple years’ worth of battery life available.
Comp M4 with a Bobro or LaRue mount are my favorites. Have one in each. Owned other models (M3, M2) as well.
However, if I were to get another one, and it was going to be for a build for lightness I’d go with the T-1 or H-1.
Why not an EOTech? I think for most folks it’s battery life/issues. I tried one because I liked the reticle and it ate batteries like they were going out of style, and it wouldn’t stay on when mounted on an AR-10. For me the price difference between an EO and an Aimpoint would have been made up in battery expense after a few years. Plus, being able to turn an Aimpoint on and leave it on indefinitely (for years) is kind of nice. That sort of thing may be useful on a patrol rifle. YMMV.
Aimpoint comp M4 (or S if you fancy the lower battery mount). My Dept. issue rifle has an Eo 512 and I can’t change by policy. It is a decent enough site, but I have concerns about durability, and battery life. I have seen alot of Eo’s go down at my agency (battery contact issues, broken glass and broken mounts), the newer revision F is alot better, but they don’t compare with Aimpoint.
I have an M4 on my personal gun and chose it over the T-1 for two reasons. 1: The AA battery which is just a bit easier and cheaper to come by than the T-1 battery (which is really not that hard to find) and 2: It has a bit better battery life than the T-1. That being said, the T-1/H-1’s are really good as well.
I have replaced my larger Aimpoints with the T1. The T1 does everything the larger sights did but is obviously smaller and lighter. The only downside is no kill flash for the T1 if you want one.
