I currently run a Aimpoint ML2 in an ARMS mount with a Troy folding buis, I have thought about changing to a Larue mount but have yet to do so. I used to think that leaving enough space behind the Aimpoint for a magnifier was the way to go, even though I have not added said magnifier. Now I’m wondering if I should go with a fixed buis, such as LMT’s, with a lower 1/3 co-witness. Anyone use, have used both? Thoughts? Pros, cons?
Honestly, when I run my Aimpoint CompM2, I NEVER flip the BUIS up at all. For me, the BUIS are just that, back-up. I can shoot them just fine, but for precision and speed on target, the RDS is FAR superior.

I run an M3 with Magpul BUIS!

I use a Larue aimpoint mount with a Larue BUIS.

Thanks for the posts guys, I guess what two points I’m considering are;
Should I keep a folding buis for the purpose of adding a magnifier, or
Should I go with a fixed buis using a lower 1/3 co-witness.
Which option has the most benefits in your opinions? Is a magnifier worth it’s cost? I’ve never used a magnifer but it seems a fixed buis using a lower 1/3 may be more beneficial but I’m not sure since, again, I’ve never used a magnifier.
I recently tried switching to a fixed LT behind an Aimpoint H1.I switched back to a folding BUIS…didnt care for the BUIS cluttering the view.
YMMV
I would just run the Troy in the up postion before bothering to switch to a fixed.Especially if you feel there’s a chance you’ll get a magnifier in the future(or any other magnified optic).It just allows for more options.
Troy folders are the only BUIS i plan to buy from here on out(regardless of set-up).
Here is what I run on one of my personal guns and what I have set up on my work gun minus the BUIS (waiting for the go a head on the PO).
Aimpoint T1 in LaRue mount - GG&G QD high mount behind that for the 3x and PVS-14 - Troy BUIS behind that. It all fits and it all works together. The 3x is fun and I can see where it could come in handy for certain stuff, same can be said for mounting the PVS-14 behind the T-1.
Here is a pic I took of my work rifle. In it you can see the T-1, GG&G mount and the space at the rear were the BUIS will go.
It is rare that an aimpoint sight will fail. so i say keep the flip sight, and leave the rear view of the aimpoint open not blocked from a fixed sight.
