Where to start- the 2nd time around

I am looking for a training opportunity or two in the late spring/summer of 2011. Back in 2000 while in college I took John Farnam’s Urban Defensive Rifle and Shotgun Class in Nelsonville, Ohio- had a great time, shot relatively well, and then life happened. Here I am ten years later looking to bring my skillset back up beyond paper puncher. Should I be looking at a course that starts from scratch because in ten years the tactics have changed so much or should I try to show my certs and jump into a level one class? Keep in mind when I took Farnam’s class RDS were new fangled and not to be trusted, and our rifles were slung with a standard GI sling, muzzle down on the dominant side shoulder. The second part of my question is who to go to? Is TDI in West Union a safe bet, or is waiting for a Vickers Class ( or a VSM regional rep.) the best route, or has John who I liked very much as an instructor as up on the newest tactics as some of the more recent operators because he ends up in the tri-state area quite often?

Lot of questions I know but free time is limited (can’t add a lot of travel days) and funds come in a close second so I need to make the right decision.
Thanks

IMHO schools and trainers fall along two general groups

A) Teaching and honing proper basic skills, how to draw, trigger control, reloads, how to clear a jam, basic footwork, basic low light, etc

B) Everything else beyond that

The first thing I would say is how are you with A? If the answer is strong or better, then I would say start asking yourself what it is that you want to focus on, then start to figure out who is gonna be close enough to attend and how they match up with what you are looking for from your next class.

Good luck
