Been reading as much as I can and am still kind on lost what I want the following:
AR platform (standard or side charging depending on what works)
It’ll wind up being SBL
I want it to take the glock 32 round mags (because I’ve got about five of them)
As far as the lower if I’m reading correctly a standard lower will work but will need some sort of block for the magwell. Anything past that and I’m lost.
Just wondering what or who others have used. I want to do most of the building myself. Where are the secret places where I can find parts I might need?
That pretty much covers it. I really appreciate everybody’s help
Oh dear…from that response I feel as though I may have just stepped in something
You don’t know anything about ARs and you want to build it yourself? Do you mean SBR (short barreled rifle)? Instead of walking down a long road to failure call Grant at G and R tactical and order a 9mm Colt. He’ll get you exactly what you need.
I’ve built a few 5.56 ar’s. And yes I meant SBR, iphone did some strange autocorrecting. Building them is way more fun than buying them already put together. sorry I didn’t specify
Because you want to use Glock mags…you are limiting yourself to either a DDLES or Lone Wolf lower. They are the ONLY 2 lowers that will accept and feed Glock magazines. The angle of the magazine and the location of the mag catch is whats driving that. Standard 9mm mags will require a magwell block in order to fill the gap in the standard magwell. Also, you’ll need to get the bolt machined to function with Glock magazines.
RRA and CMMG are the easiest places for uppers, barrels, bolts etc. The lowers are DDLES and Lone Wolf. If your dead set on the Glock mags, this is where to start. DDLES is spotty getting lowers out and the LW is at the tail end of the R&D phase.
I personally wouldn’t limit your options due to the constraint of having 5 Glock magazines in hand.
If I didn’t already have a LE marked 6450, I’d spring for one of the new flattop versions that C4IGrant is offering, without the rollmark…and then SBR that. Seems to be the best route with underlying quality.
The dedicated magwell RRA and CMMG have are very good products. I stayed out of the 9mm game until the dedicated ones were availiable. After reading countless threads of people having issue with them…I didn’t want the hassle. Most of the problems with 9mm’s can be traced straight to the magazine used. While I’ve had no problem with CProducts, RRA and homemade Uzi mags…the gold standard is the Metalform mags. Yes, they do cost a little bit more but you get what you pay for. Good luck, the 9 is a lot of fun.
I can say I’ve done some shooting with the CMMG 9mm full auto and it ran like a top.
