Where are you guys buying your .243/.270/30-06 and other “grandpa” caliber ammo. I am running low on 30-06, and I am having a heck of a time finding deer and hog loads locally or online. Am I looking in the wrong spots, or is the market just not recovered?
In basic terms, the market hasn’t fully recovered yet. It’s getting there, but a lot of popular cartridges are still hit or miss. .30-06, .243, and .270 are among those, with ammo being produced, but rapidly gobbled up as soon as it hits the shelves. Specialty versions of those cartridges just magnify the problem.
Locally, I’ve seen all three calibers at Cabela’s and even at Wal-Mart, but it’s never a certainty you’ll find any, or if you’ll find the spot on the shelf they’re supposed to be empty. For online options, I’d say start with AmmoSeek.com, and go from there.
