Where do you guys get your gear/ Suggestions for new guy

I’ve been browsing the internet looking for a good retailer. What I’m looking for is a MOLLE type vest, ar-15 mag pouches, and backpack with hydration bladder to start. There’s so many sites that focus on airsoft stuff. Opsgear.com is one site I found, I avoid their UTG stuff but they have a MOLLE vest made in the US by Condor and it looks just like the Army’s ACU vest. Any experience with Condor? Any site recommendations? Thanks

Condor isn’t high on many folks’ list, it is on the lower end of the scale and lots of it is just knock-off stuff.

many thanks

Can’t beat SKD tactical…

Grey Group!!!

20% off too

blackstone tactical carries all my favorite brands. Charles is a great guy. free shipping to SEVERAL different forums, this one included i believe.

optactical also carries SEVERAL kick ass brands. The guy that owns it is military. probably a good bet to call them before you order to make sure they have it, as their website has not, in the past, updated with stock levels (ie: it doesn’t tell you that they are out of it).

Excellent list.
For custom gear, I would contact Original SOE Gear or High Speed Gear Inc.
Condor MOLLE gear is complete shit.

I’m new to this side of the forum, most of my time is spent on the AR general/technical discussion board. I’m more drawn to a vest setup over any particular chest rig because the vests look the most stable, comfortable, and customizable. I really like the taylor tactical IBA carrier but I don’t want to spend $400 on it. Here’s a similar alternative I found, what do you guys think about this one.

I also find this one highly appealing if I decide not to go with a vest

I wouldn’t put any armor in it right away, but I’d rather keep my options open for the future. I would want to use at least 6 mag pouches, a dump bag, something for general storage, and a med kit at first. I would add to it over time. Plus I would want to be able to carry some kind of 3-day pack while wearing it. Any suggestions?

If you are not going to buy or use armor, a vest/plate carrier would not do you any good. They are meant to carry armor, period. I’m sure there is more than one douche out there wearing them with no armor for the “cool factor”.
That MOLLE chest rig would work well for you; you can customize it how you want. It will allow you to experiment with pouch placement which will constantly evolve as you evolve.
Plus, you can always throw a chest rig on over top of armor when and if you go that route.
Besides that Eagle, Mayflower and Tactical Tailor also make good MOLLE chest rigs.

You will find many of your answers a lot quicker if you use the search feature. You will also be able to see pics of other dude’s set-ups.

I would give Rob’s site (tacticalyellowvisor.net) a read for chest rig info - not the end-all, but that’s a great primer to how to set up a basic chest rig without spending too much cash.

A good belt and a good chest rig is where I’d start. You could still run both over a quality slick plate carrier, and this setup provides the greatest flexibility and practicality, and allows you to avoid carrying needless weight.

Your current load list sounds quite good - 6 magazines is a lot (at most, I’d go 4 on a chest rig, 2 on a belt if you’re not deliberately going into combat), have a solid FAK (proficiency on contents), and a basic dump pouch is all you’d need.
MOLLE addons such as a multitool, 7-Hook, and flashlight are something to look at as well, but very simple chest rigs are the best value, and what most people come back to using after creating gargantuan overloaded ones anyway.

The Eagle LE or SKD Tac Chest rig, Mayflower, HSGI, OSOE Chest rigs, TT and USGG Chest rigs, or even the LBT chest rigs would all work great.
Used SKD ones can be had for as little as $50, those have more than enough space for magazines, a blowout kit and a dump pouch (includes pistol mag/mutlitool/flashlight in front), and IMO would be the best starting point. I’ve got two of them, and one of them is coming back with me to A-stan.

+1 for Eagle. They make good gear. I also like Tactical Tailor.

thanks for the input. I ordered the 2-piece MAV and X-harness from tactical tailor. I’m still looking around at pouches and I can’t wait to start setting it up.

check out apachetactical.us
if you do not see it on the site email I’m sure we have it or can get it. At this time we only can carry 200 items on the site.

Good choice.

I have a 1 piece TT MAV with the X-Harness and don’t regret buying it for one minute. However, I would go for the 2 piece if I had to do it over again though.

Between skd and optactical, almost all my gear needs are covered.

Refer to the SKD Awesomeness Thread on why these guys get a lot of business on this site. Also, you’ll notice that the owner is active on the forum and very responsive. Not saying that other companies can’t do it, but SKD and others mentioned here have already set the bar very high.

optactical has almost everything you need in one stop. It’s a great place to get your stuff.

I got the 2 piece MAV and X-harness today. This thing is beautiful, couldn’t ask for anything better.

You’ll love the two piece Mav with the Cross harness. That’s my go to rig when I don’t have to wear Armor. I wore it exclusively from '04 to '07. You won’t be disappointed.

SOS

bump

There are some crazy deals on Tactical Tailor gear on the www.greyghostoutlet.com website.

I couldn’t resist picking up a 3-Day Assault pack in Ranger Green on there. The deal was simply too good to pass up on…

PS- They must be working their website, but the packs are still on there. Just type the word “pack” into the searchbox on that website, and they’ll pop up. Oh, yeah. There is a large thread over on TOS talking about this in the Tactical Gear Forum. I hope it’s ok to post this… :o
